FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – May 7, 2025 – Today, Saber Interactive’s 3D Realms publishing label and Knights Peak, in partnership with developer Slipgate Ironworks, have unveiled a brand-new dev diary for Tempest Rising, the nostalgia-filled real-time strategy game that’s reigniting the genre. Since its launch on April 17, Tempest Rising has drawn widespread praise for its classic real-time strategy gameplay, modern technical upgrades, and gripping alternate-history campaign. Now players can watch the full four-part series on how the team fused retro-inspired gameplay with modern technology to create the ultimate contemporary RTS, and check out an accolades trailer celebrating the game’s critically acclaimed launch.
In the weeks before Tempest Rising’s release, Slipgate Ironworks launched “Beyond the Battlefield,” a documentary-style dev diary digging into all aspects of development. The first three episodes featured an introduction to the game’s origins, a breakdown of the game’s unique factions, and a deep-dive into the original soundtrack, featuring legendary RTS composer Frank Klepacki. Today marks the launch of the fourth and final episode, in which the team discusses the process of turning ideas into gameplay, incorporating player feedback, and balancing the multiplayer experience.
On April 24, Tempest Rising introduced its first major update, adding ranked matches and global leaderboards to the game. Additional features still ahead include spectator mode, party queueing, and the campaign’s Veti becoming the third playable faction.
Tempest Rising is available now on Steam for $39.99 (Standard Edition) and $49.99 (Deluxe Edition), which includes the full game, a digital artbook, and the official soundtrack featuring 41 pulse-pounding tracks.
