MINICLIP PARTNERS WITH MAKE-A-WISH UK  TO GRANT 50 WISHES TO CRITICALLY ILL CHILDREN

The partnership coincides with the third annual Wish 200 Week, which sees the games industry raise vital funds to grant gaming-related wishes

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – 20 JULY 2023 - Miniclip, a global leader in digital games, has announced that it has partnered with Make-A-Wish UK® to help grant 50 life-changing gaming-related wishes for children with critical illnesses and their families.

Following long term support for the charity, including President and Co-Founder Rob Small’s role as a patron, this new partnership solidifies Miniclip’s relationship with Make-A-Wish UK, building on their commitment to harness the positive power of gaming, and its communities, to help others.

Central to this partnership, Miniclip has committed to helping Make-A-Wish UK grant 50 life-changing wishes, through sponsorship, volunteering and engaging its players in campaigns such as Wish 200 Week. Driven by Miniclip Gives Champions, the custodians of the brand’s charity initiatives and partnerships, fun and creative opportunities will be generated for Miniclippers to get involved in raising funds and awareness, as well as volunteering their time.

Miniclip is also calling on the games industry to unite and raise money for the annual Wish 200 Week. Taking place between 24th and 30th July 2023, Wish 200 Week invites gamers, industry leaders and content creators to host sponsored live streams, challenges, and special events to help raise money. All money raised will go directly towards granting wishes for 200 children and young people.

Miniclip will be getting behind the campaign once again this year, helping Make-A-Wish UK to reach its goal by sponsoring a portion of the 200 wishes, and engaging its players to get involved through in-game advertising.

Rob Small said: “It has been a joy to see the gaming community coming together to help grant wishes for fellow gamers over the years. Seeing the support that Make-A-Wish UK has received, I am proud to be part of an industry that is using its power to help others.

“Having Miniclip become an official Make-A-Wish UK partner is an incredible honour, and I look forward to working even closer with the team to grant even more gaming-related wishes in the future.”

In response to a 400% increase in gaming-related wishes since 2017, Small helped create the Wish 200 Week campaign in 2021. Now entering its third year, Wish 200 Week hopes to grant more wishes than ever before to children that find solace in gaming whilst undergoing treatment for critical conditions.

Jason Suckley, Chief Executive of Make-A-Wish UK, said: “Gamers and non-gamers alike have the power to help us grant wishes for as many critically ill children across the UK as possible, many who have had childhood stolen away from them by their illness. We’re receiving a growing number of gaming-related wishes, which we know can leave a profound and lasting impact on critically ill children and their families.

“Working with Miniclip as an official Make-A-Wish UK partner allows us to continue harnessing the positive power of the gaming community, helping us to reach our vision of granting every eligible child’s wish.”

Since Wish 200 Week was established in 2021, the gaming community has raised almost £700,000, granting over 300 wishes to critically ill children and their families to help them create long-lasting memories. Notes to editors
  • Make-A-Wish does not use the phrase ‘terminally ill’ and asks that all editorial content follows suit as some children and young people are not made aware of the exact nature of their diagnosis and Make-A-Wish respects their family’s approach to their situation. Some also recover fully from their illness.

About Make-A-Wish UK
Make-A-Wish UK is part of a global movement. Established in the UK in 1986, we exist to make life-changing wishes come true for the thousands of critically ill children across the UK.

Our vision is a world where every single one of those children, and their loved ones, can experience the life-changing magic of a wish. A wish helps to restore that childhood and puts worry on the backseat. It provides an opportunity to choose something positive to look forward to and the chance to be a child first and a patient second.
