Amanita Design announces Machinarium 2

Josef and Berta return in the sequel to the 2009 robot adventure

PRAGUE, Czechia - Oct 8th, 2026 | Amanita Design, the indie game studio behind Machinarium, Samorost, Creaks and, most recently, Phonopolis, today announced Machinarium 2. The long-awaited sequel is available to wishlist on Steam now.

Revealed with a first trailer at the Triple-i Initiative showcase, Machinarium 2 arrives seventeen years after the original charmed millions of players. The sequel to the award-winning puzzle adventure picks up right where Josef and Berta's story left off.

Jakub Dvorský, the CEO of Amanita Design and game designer, on the development of Machinarium 2: “We're not getting any younger, and the world seems to be ending, so if we were ever going to make Machinarium 2, now is the right time. We're also grateful to every player who waited patiently all these years. We couldn't have done it without them.”

After escaping the city of Machinarium, Josef and Berta crash-land in the barrens. Climbing down a cliff, they find a hidden valley home to two peculiar robot tribes: one living in the Elektrona monastery high on the rocks, the other in the city of Oilton below. Both are slowly running out of power.

This time, players guide both robots, switching between Josef and Berta at any time and using their abilities to crack puzzles neither could solve alone. As in the original game, there is not a single line of text to read. Robots communicate through animated comic-style bubbles, symbols and gestures.

Machinarium 2 is fully playable with a gamepad, letting players move the robots directly without a cursor, which the development team considers the best way to play. Mouse controls are still there and fully supported for players who want the classic adventure feel.

Every environment in the game is hand-drawn, in a style inspired by old master drawings and Renaissance landscape paintings, and every robot is richly animated. The soundtrack is composed by Tomáš Dvořák aka Floex, who scored the original Machinarium. His new work keeps the robot universe and acoustic textures of the first game, now elevated by symphonic arrangements.

Machinarium 2 is coming to Steam for Windows and macOS and is available to wishlist now. More platforms and dates will be announced later. In the meantime, players can now get the original Machinarium on Steam at 80% off until October 15.
