About WONDERFALL:
Paris, 1920. The city is collapsing into sand. A force known as Entropy is eating through monuments, streets and lives, and metallic gardens are crystallising around the city's oldest landmarks. Nobody understands why.

Players take the role of Léon, a young orphan who has only ever known a Paris half-buried in sand, and who can shape the very substance consuming it. Sent into the ruins of the Île de la Cité by his foster father Ernest, Léon crosses crumbling métro tunnels, runs the Parisian streets and rooftops, moves around and inside Notre-Dame and the Sainte-Chapelle, and descends into the forgotten galleries beneath the island. Paris is faithfully recreated, landmark by landmark, then reshaped with creative freedom as Entropy takes hold of it. Along the way he meets Lily, an enigmatic young woman searching for her father, and crosses the path of Wotan, the founder of the Académie des Sciences Concrètes, whose guards now hold the streets.

WONDERFALL is a six-to-eight-hour story-rich narrative adventure built on exploration, traversal, contextual stealth and environmental puzzles. Léon's sand-based abilities let him reshape parts of the environment, slip past corrupted entities and carve a path through the ruins. The story is told through more than 1,000 lines of dialogue, written logs scattered across the city and a small number of cinematic moments, so that exploration itself reveals what happened to Paris, and what still lies beneath its ruins.

Key features:

  • A collapsing 1920 Paris as a central character: the Île de la Cité faithfully recreated, then transformed with creative freedom
  • A character-driven story with over 1,000 lines of dialogue, fully voiced
  • Sand-based abilities for traversal, stealth and puzzle-solving
  • An atmospheric world designed for observation and interpretation
  • 6–8 hours of narrative-driven exploration, designed to be finished
  • Text in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Russian and Simplified Chinese
The voice cast
WONDERFALL's writing plays out while you move and in select cutscenes: exchanges between Léon and Lily on the way to the next rooftop, Ernest's voice over the Vocalograph, Wotan’s voice echoing through Notre-Dame and the Sainte-Chapelle. Four actors carry that script.

Character Actor Role in the story
Léon Ryan Highley (Road 96, Haven) The playable hero. A young orphan who adapts to a buried Paris rather than mourning it, armed with the SandSpitter and the Vocalograph.

Lily Jeanne Pajon The game's opening is hers. Mysterious and watchful, she knows the island's hidden passages and offers Léon a way through, on one condition.

Ernest Desforges Paul Bandey (Heavy Rain, Styx: Master of Shadows) The man who raised Léon and sends him into Notre-Dame. A self-taught engineer from the Montmartre quarries, now sick and hiding on a barge on the Seine.

Wotan Patrick Raynal Wilhelm Otto Tanner, founder of the Académie des Sciences Concrètes. He lost his mother to Entropy as a child and has spent his life trying to master it.

Quotes:
“We set out to make a game about why a city died, and to let players uncover the answer with their own hands rather than watch it in cutscenes. Paris is the first thing you see and the last thing you understand. We can't wait for players to walk its rooftops on 9 December,” said Jérôme Beaune, Game Director of Wonderfall

“Over 1,000 lines of dialogue, and most of them play while you move. Ryan Highley, Jeanne Pajon, Paul Bandey and Patrick Raynal had to make every line work while Léon was halfway up a wall. They gave these four characters a life we didn't know they had,” said Sylvian Bouvier, Creative Director of Wonderfall
