Merseyside, UK – 16 October 2020 – UK developer and publisher Thalamus Digital Publishing Ltd. today announced that the psychedelic twin-stick shoot ‘em up Death Ray Manta SE will be arriving on Nintendo Switch on October 19, 2020.
Originally launched in 2012, Death Ray Manta is a short-form twin-stick arena shooter developed by indie stalwart Rob Fearon. In 2015 the game was rebuilt, revamped, and remixed as Death Ray Manta SE, and at the time received extremely favourable reviews from EDGE magazine and Eurogamer, the latter stating, “DRM hits the heights that all of the truly great twin-stick shooters reach.”
“Death Ray Manta is the distillation of everything I love and adore about videogames,” explains Fearon. “By stripping out the cruft and the things that waste your time, you’re left with nothing but game. It’s also an arena shooter that knows its history, from Robotron to Llamatron to Geometry Wars and on, it’s an arcade game that filters what Eugene Jarvis could have done visually given access to modern technology. Which means enormous cataclysmic explosions of rainbow colour. Often.”
“We were huge fans of the original game,” explains Thalamus founder and CEO Andy Roberts, “and with the Nintendo Switch being the perfect gaming platform for twin-stick shoot ‘em ups naturally we were incredibly keen to bring the game to a whole new audience. Additionally, we were delighted to be able to include an expanded soundtrack featuring multiple tracks which never made it into the original.”
Death Ray Manta SE features 30+ challenging screens, a stellar synthwave soundtrack from Mike Daw/Oh Stevie, a southpaw (left-handed) option, and stunning presentation screens from the incredibly talented industry veteran Ste Pickford.
