OUT NOW: BEYOND THE PIXELS AND PIXEL DOORS LAUNCH MODERN-RETRO CUTE-’EM-UP ‘ASTRO BURN’ INTO 1.0

Players can dive into unhinged space-cat arcade chaos, stackable snack weapons, and cooperative bullet-hell on Steam today.

LONDON, UK - July 30, 2026 - Beyond The Pixels today officially released the 1.0 edition of Astro Burn on Steam and GoG. Alongside its enthusiastic community, the development team built a vibrant, beautifully bonkers tribute to 16-bit cute-’em-up classics like Parodius and Pop’n TwinBee. Arcade fans can finally experience the complete, adrenaline-fueled package that recently captured a 150% funding milestone for its Physical Collector’s Edition on Kickstarter.

In Astro Burn, players take control of Astro, a sassy space cat piloting a rocket-fueled jetpack alongside her robot sidekick, AL. Gamers must blast, dodge, and claw their way through a surreal manifestation of Astro’s subconscious dreamscape. The journey pits players against aggressively adorable cosmic threats, including screen-filling mecha pandas, hyperactive huskies throwing solar vortexes, and opera-singing space squids.

Core Game Features
The design team packed the 1.0 launch with a rich array of features built for retro collectors, speedrunners, and casual gamers alike:
●Stack-’Em-Up Snack Weapons: Players can collect multiple weapons and fire them all simultaneously. In a delightfully unhinged twist, the team replaced standard bullets with flying food projectiles so players can defeat cosmic enemies entirely with snacks.
●A Subconscious Story with Heart: Captains will pilot Astro through 9 diverse levels; spanning deep space, mechanical worlds, and the skylines of Earth, to reach an emotional narrative conclusion inspired by a Wizard of Oz style journey.
●Competitive Co-Op & High Scores: Friends can team up in a competitive local arcade mode, utilizing Steam Remote Play Together so only one player needs to own the game. Pilots can log classic 3-letter initials on the local board or link their Discord accounts to automatically push their fastest speedrun times directly to the community.
●Precision Gameplay & Speed Zones: Speedrunners can manipulate three distinct screen "Speed Zones" to trigger Turbo Speed for advanced time-attack strategies. To keep competitive actions fair, our engineers completely overhauled hitboxes and weapon audio, replacing repetitive noises with a satisfying "popping bubble wrap" sound effect.
●Dedicated Modes for Felines: Players needing a break from intense bullet-hell action can unwind in an integrated "ASMR Mode" complete with ambient soundscapes and cat purrs. Meanwhile, pet owners can activate a specialized "Cat TV Mode" to entertain their real-life cats across three dedicated broadcast channels.
●‘Meowcromatic’ Colourblind Assist Mode: A colourblind mode so cool it became its own gameplay experience paying homage to Mad Max Fury Road Chrome edition.
