December 12, 2024 - Tense Games has unveiled exciting new details about Fractured Alliance, its upcoming real-time strategy game inspired by classics like Command & Conquer, Supreme Commander and Starcraft. Following a recent reveal of the game’s three core factions and their distinct playstyles, the studio has now shared more about the powerful Super Weapons that will define large-scale warfare.
These faction-specific weapons promise to bring explosive new dimensions to battles, offering players thrilling opportunities to shift the tide of combat.
Set in an alternate reality where the Cold War persists into the modern day, this strategy game combines the tactical depth of RTS classics with innovative mechanics and a rich, re-imagined geopolitical landscape.
The Factions
In Fractured Alliance, players will command one of three unique factions, each inspired by alternate-reality versions of global power blocs. Each faction brings its own strengths, weaknesses, and signature strategies to the battlefield.
United Federation
The United Federation represents the cutting edge of military technology. Armed with plasma and railgun weaponry, they excel in high-damage precision strikes and energy-based defenses. However, their elite units are costly and demand careful resource management to maintain effectiveness.
Eastern Alliance
This faction thrives on brute force, boasting heavily armored units and destructive area-of-effect weapons. Their reliance on flame and radiation tech allows them to dominate territory and control enemy advances. However, their slower speed and lack of precision make them vulnerable to faster, more agile foes.
The Collective
For fans of futuristic sci-fi, The Collective offers an entirely different playstyle. This faction utilizes autonomous drones to apply relentless pressure on opponents. Their strength lies in swarm tactics, with weaker but highly mobile units that can overwhelm enemies with sheer numbers.
Friendly to non-RTS players
In addition to the unique playstyle of The Collective, it is also the most beginner-friendly faction. Both resource collection and warfare are highly automated, requiring little input from the players.
This makes it ideal for those who have never played RTS games before, and serves as a great introduction. They can then test the waters with the few gundam-style suits the faction has that do need manual control. After that they will be 'graduating' to playing the other factions that play more like a traditional RTS.
The United Federation and the Eastern Alliance play more similar the factions in classic RTS games such as Command & Conquer, Age of Empires, Supreme Commander and Dawn of War.
Super Weapons: Battlefield Game-Changers
Each faction in Fractured Alliance wields a signature superweapon that embodies its tactical philosophy and offers game-changing potential in battle.
- United Federation: Storm Control Center & Stealth Bomber Squadrons
- Eastern Alliance: Nuclear Missile & Phosphor Mortars
- The Collective: Meteor Strike & Drone Swarm
Super Weapons aren’t just massive tools of destruction—they serve as strategic elements that reinforce the unique identity of each faction. Deploying them at the right moment can turn the tide of even the most hard-fought battles.
A Glimpse at the Future
With Fractured Alliance still in development, Tense Games is gearing up for an exclusive demo to present to potential publishing partners. The demo will showcase core gameplay systems, including faction mechanics, resource management, and terrain-based tactics, alongside the stunning spectacle of Super Weapons in action.
“We’ve built Fractured Alliance as a love letter to classic RTS games while embracing modern advancements”, said Thomas van den Essenburg, the owner of Tense Games. “Our goal is to deliver a strategic experience that both challenges and excites players. We’re eager to share what we’ve created with publishers and later on with the broader RTS community.”
