Reforging a Legend: Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged announced, substantially enhanced and in 4K

Classic sequel reimagined

York, UK - Tuesday, 7th October 2025 - Revolution Software has today lifted the lid on the development of Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged, a faithful reimagining of the second game in the beloved and multi-award-winning adventure series.

In development for PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) and Console (PlayStation 5, Xbox One / Series X|S, Nintendo Switch),  this new edition follows the success of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforged in 2024 - which critics claimed set “a new standard for how to make point-and-clicks more accessible in this modern day” - a validation of Revolution's mission to appeal both to a new generation of players, as well as to existing fans of the series.

Coinciding with the announcement, Revolution will launch a “coming soon” page for the game on Kickstarter, inviting fans to sign up for updates. More news coming very soon…

The Smoking Mirror has always been one of our most loved games, and with Reforged we were able to enhance it in ways that respect the original while making it shine for modern audiences”. says Charles Cecil, founder and CEO of Revolution Software. “Just as with the first game, we can't wait for players old and new to experience it again”.

The Steam page for Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged will go live today, allowing fans to wishlist the game and receive development news ahead of release.

Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged will include:

  • Step into the shoes of American tourist George Stobbart and sharp-witted French journalist Nico Collard as they unravel a deadly Mayan conspiracy steeped in ancient artifacts and dark magic.

  • Travel across Europe, the Carribean, and Central America, solving puzzles, outsmarting enemies, and piecing together the mystery behind the terrifying “Smoking Mirror”.

  • Experience the game’s iconic locations, illustrated in beautiful high definition, coupled with crisp audio for the first time.

  • Switch between the original 1997 version of the game and the new reforged visuals at the click of a button.

  • Play the game the way that you want to - choose between a ‘traditional mode’ for people who enjoy adventures the way they used to be, and a ‘story mode’ for those who want subtle hints to ensure they never get frustrated.
