Pole vault your way to the top of cyberspace within 2 hours and… REFUND THIS GAME!

Issuing an open challenge to all gamers to beat our game within Steam’s 2-hour refund window once it releases next month on October 15!

SKÖVDE, SWEDEN, 17th September 2026 — Collaborators Cactile Games and dofhouse are today announcing their new game, with the real actual title, “Refund This Game” set to launch on October 15th this year on Steam.

Refund This Game is a first-person Foddian[1]  rage game with the twist stated clearly in its name: if you are able to get all the way to the top of our historically accurate 90’s cyberspace tower within Steam’s refund window, we invite players to refund the game guilt free! We beat it ourselves, so we know it’s possible; but it will not be easy! Just one little mistake could send you tumbling down all the way to the bottom, forcing you to start over from the beginning again.

The only thing you have to help you get to the top is a single pole-vaulting spear. Using only 100% accurate cyber-vaulting pole physics, you'll need to stab your stick into the walls of the tower and fling yourself all the way up to the goal!

REAL ACTUAL FEATURES:

  • Cyberspace Pole Vaulting!
Stick your pole to a wall, bend it, and let go! You’ll need to master the physics-based stick-flinging in order to catapult yourself to the top and earn that refund. It won’t be easy, but it feels amazing once you master it!

  • One (1) checkpoint.
    …
but you can always go back and get it, if you’ve already placed it. Just make sure the stress of your hubris doesn’t cause you to mess up and fall all the way down to the bottom!

  • Cool and nostalgic Jungle soundtrack!
We composed it specially to soothe your nerves as you lose an hour’s worth of progress, but also to feel awesome as the beat kicks in once you start building up real speed!

  • Leaderboard for the Real Gamers.
For all patrons of the arts who decide to not refund the game about refunding the game, we added an online leaderboard! So you can race against all the other cool people who wanted to contribute to our continued game making. ❤️

  • Secret final challenge section?
    ??? (Shush! It’s a secret!)

“Like all great collabs between game developers, this all began with a chat over lunch” explains Ben Clarke, CEO of Cactile Games. “We knew we wanted to make a game together, and decided to do something in response to the recent discourse about Steam’s refund window. We challenged ourselves to make a super fun game in a very short amount of time; which we’re now challenging players to beat within just two hours! While we genuinely are fine with encouraging people to ‘Refund This Game’ (if they actually beat it!), we really put in a lot of love and effort to make this game as fun as possible for those who decide to keep it”.

"This game is a celebration of the player’s right to refunds” dofhouse’s CEO William Jutbring continues. “We've always cared deeply about consumer rights and freedoms and have a strong distaste for business practices that rely on unfair and exploitative strategies like AI, paywalls, live-service and other dark patterns which only result in worse games and wasted money.  So we did the opposite. A hand-crafted platformer that a skilled enough player can purchase, defeat, and refund all in a day's work".

Refund This Game is being developed exclusively for Steam, targeting a release date as soon as October 15th. We urge as many as possible to wishlist the game to be notified when it launches, so you can try to be among the first to complete the challenge!
