Winds of War Surges with Player Boom

Brno, June 10, 2025

MADFINGER Games released the feature-packed Winds of War update three weeks ago. Since then, over 215,000 players have jumped into Gray Zone Warfare, and they’re enjoying what they see. Looking only at the period since the update’s release, 72% of reviews are positive. Winds of War brought more than just PvP features and dynamic weather. MADFINGER has summed it all up in a new 10-minute video overview that explains why this update is a crucial milestone for the game’s future.

Winds of War is a key milestone for us. Thanks to all returning and new players — community support and feedback show we are on the right track. Some requested improvements by players are coming soon in the 0.3 patches, and we are already preparing the next big update: 0.4 Dark Revelations, arriving later this year. Stay tuned! - Dominik Jícha, Marketing Director

More Than Meets the Eye

Gray Zone Warfare recently celebrated one year since its Early Access release, and in that time, the game has seen many improvements. With Winds of War, players are returning faster than ever.

Amid all the PvP hype, you may have missed significant additions that enhance the PvE experience. The task flow has been reworked so players can now accept and complete tasks directly in the field, a change that dramatically shifts how the game is played. New code-locked safes provide fresh ways to access loot, weapons can now be repaired using kits, and there are over 60 new locations to explore, just to name a few additions.

Performance and optimization have improved significantly. While there’s still room for growth, the progress is already noticeable. MADFINGER devs are also working closely with the community on quality-of-life improvements like dragging mechanics, PID refinements, smooth zooming, locker sorting, shared kill counts in squads, and much more.

The studio connects with players through bi-weekly streams, where new features are teased and feedback is actively collected. A perfect example? Tracking tags, added to the game thanks to direct community input.

Winds of War in Numbers

MADFINGER developers welcomed over 215,000 players since the update was released, and the content has been well-received, with update-specific reviews sitting at 72% positive. Gray Zone Warfare also returned to the spotlight on Twitch, with the second-highest peak since the Early Access release. At one point, nearly 32,000 viewers were watching live. About 5,000 creators streamed the game on Twitch, and YouTube videos about the game reached 3,413,000 views just in May.

Thanks to the Twitch Drops campaign, around 50,000 players claimed consumables and exclusive in-game apparel from Viktos, known for innovative tactical gear, and Gatorz, the American eyewear brand for those who push the limits.
