Invariant Officially Re-Announced: A Survival Horror FPS Set in the Frozen Depths of Antarctica

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Zagreb, Croatia, May 30, 2026

Independent developer Josip Makjanić, former Serious Sam level designer, today officially re-announced Invariant, a survival horror FPS inspired by the shooters and horror classics of the ’90s and 2000s, set within a remote Antarctic research facility where something has gone catastrophically wrong. Invariant is currently in development for PC (Windows and Linux).

The game draws creative inspiration from genre-defining works including F.E.A.R., Half-Life, the original Resident Evil series, and the paranoid atmosphere of John Carpenter's The Thing. Invariant blends methodical atmospheric exploration with logical puzzles and high-intensity combat, centered on the feeling of being trapped in an isolated and deeply hostile environment.

"I want to build the kind of game I grew up with. One that respects the player's intelligence and their time. Not a spiritual sequel to anything. Something entirely its own, made with full creative control and genuine care for every detail." — Josip Makjanić, Developer, Faros Game Studio

The game is being rebuilt from Unity to the Godot engine for both Windows and Linux. The shift reflects the developer's commitment to game preservation, mod support, physical releases, and player ownership. With funding secured, Invariant is now in full production.

Key Features

  • Survival Horror Roots: Resource management, deliberate pacing, and logical puzzles.

  • Intense, Grounded Combat: High-stakes FPS encounters where every bullet counts.

  • Atmospheric Isolation: A claustrophobic Antarctic facility shaped by paranoia, dread, and environmental storytelling.
