Dutch Games Industry Thrives: Double Digit Growth and Global Talent on Display at Gamescom

ZOETERMEER, THE NETHERLANDS – 16 July, 2025

The Dutch Games Association (DGA) returns to Gamescom with the Netherlands Pavilion — a vibrant showcase of the Dutch games industry’s creativity, resilience, and global impact.

While the global games industry has faced significant setbacks in recent years, the Dutch sector continues to rise. According to the latest Dutch Games Monitor, total revenue jumped by 10.5% between 2021 and 2023, reaching a record €763 million. The number of active game companies climbed to 614. Although the overall workforce saw a slight decline, key regions like Amsterdam and Rotterdam recorded notable job growth.

As a small country, the Netherlands punches far above its weight in the global games arena. The country is home to more than 10% of PlayStation Studios worldwide and has given rise to internationally acclaimed indie developers such as Vlambeer, Adriaan de Jongh, and Ronimo Games.

Pavilion Participants: A Cross-Section of Dutch Excellence
The Netherlands Pavilion brings together a dynamic mix of seasoned developers, rising stars, and leading service providers:

  • BlackMill Games (WW1 Game Series) and Gamious (Lake) represent the established talent.
  • Square Glade Games is one to watch, with their upcoming title Outbound already boasting over 800,000 wishlists.
  • The world’s biggest online playground for web games, Poki (90 million monthly players) and leading partner in browser game distribution GameDistribution.
  • Rising studios like Birungi and Multiverse Narratives, as well as web3 specialists Lucky Kat Studios and Duckland Games — the latter founded by former AAA developers with credits on Resident Evil, Lord of the Rings, Avengers, and Tom Clancy franchises.
  • Veteran publisher Iceberg Interactive (Strange Horticulture) joins the lineup alongside new label Mystic Forge, founded by industry veterans.
  • Service providers like Local Heroes, — who provided localization for numerous AAA titles and indie hits, like PEAK Caboodle, the experts on every aspect of self-publishing, and Deviant Legal, a full-service law firm specialized in the games industry.
  • Household names, like Newzoo, the leading provider of PC and console games data, and event experience platform MeetToMatch.
  • Hosting provider i3D.net, global provider of digital engineering, cloud and AI-enabled transformation services EPAM Systems, Inc. and VaultN who connects publishers, distributors, and retailers on one smart platform to automate game key delivery.
  • Representatives of local regions like the City of Rotterdam, home of TwitchCon Europe and premier Benelux game industry business event INDIGO, and B’GAME, Breda’s dedicated game incubator, supporting talent and startups in entertainment games, serious games, and esports.
