On October 30, 2026 (JST), ASOBIBAKUROUSAGI LLC released its online drawing game, Miskatonic University Art Club, on Steam (Windows and Mac) and Google Play (Android). The iOS version for iPhone and iPad is currently under App Store review and is expected to launch soon.

“A formless chaos, spilling blasphemous bubbles”... what is that supposed to look like?!

In this online draw-and-guess game for 2–8 players, strange written descriptions are your only guide to drawing monsters from the Cthulhu Mythos. You don't need to be a great artist. What matters is whether other players can figure out which monster you've drawn.

You can also collect illustrations drawn during matches to create your own Necronomicon. As its pages fill up, your story with the art club's president, Thoth, gradually unfolds.

The game is a one-time purchase priced at US$2.99 on Steam and Google Play, with no ads or in-app purchases. Cross-play between PC, phones and tablets lets players on different devices play together.

About Miskatonic University Art Club

The Cthulhu Mythos grew out of the works of American author H. P. Lovecraft. Its stories feature strange monsters beyond human understanding and terrifying beings that defy description.

The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire that appears in these stories. Its pages are filled with descriptions such as “the very concepts of up and down begin to lose all meaning” and “countless indescribable appendages protrude from its body, writhing and twisting.” Reading them leaves you none the wiser about what these creatures actually look like.

Giving that book its illustrations is the work of the Miskatonic University Art Club.

As a club member, you'll receive a Mythos creature's name and a written description, then draw what you imagine it looks like.

The same monster might look completely different depending on who draws it. Artistic skill matters less than whether the other members can recognize your subject.

How to play

Over five rounds, players draw Mythos creatures based on strange descriptions, then try to work out which monster each picture depicts.

1. Get your assignment: Each player receives a Mythos creature's name and a description of its appearance. Your description is hidden from the other players.
2. Draw your illustration: Before time runs out, draw the creature as you imagine it from the description. Turn its distinctive details into visual clues for the other members.
3. Guess the subjects: Once everyone has finished, the illustrations appear without the creatures' names. Guess which Mythos creature each picture represents.
4. Earn points: Score points for correctly identifying other members' creatures and for each member who correctly identifies yours.
5. Become an Outstanding Member: Compete across all five rounds. The member with the highest total score earns the title of “Outstanding Member.”

Key features

Play with Friends and Random Match

Share a room code to play with friends, or use Random Match to find other players automatically.

When playing with friends, you can set drawing tools, time limits and other rules for each room. Both modes support 2–8 players.

Crayons and Shapes

Choose from two sets of drawing tools. Crayons mode lets you draw freely with three pen widths, while Shapes mode lets you combine square, triangle, circle and star stamps.

Even if freehand drawing isn't your strength, a few shapes might come together to make a monster you never expected.

Sudden requests from the club president

During a game, the president may suddenly have a special request about how you draw your illustration.

“We can't print in color, so draw in black and white this time!”

“Keep an eye on your ink levels!”

These requests change the conditions for drawing, including the colors you can use and the amount of ink available. Can you still get the other members to recognize your creature when you can't draw as usual?

Madness

The more points you earn in matches, the higher your Madness rises.

At higher levels, the canvas slowly warps and the lines you've drawn begin to squirm. You'll need to capture your creature's defining features while the changing screen makes it harder to draw as intended.

The higher you score, the harder your next illustration becomes: a fitting twist for a game set in the Cthulhu Mythos.

The Necronomicon and President Thoth's story

When at least half of the club members correctly identify the creature you've drawn, your illustration is accepted into your own Necronomicon.

You can also spend points earned in matches to unlock pages for Mythos creatures you haven't drawn yet.

As the book gains pages, your story with the enigmatic club president, Thoth, gradually unfolds. Enjoy matches, build your own Necronomicon and discover more of the president's story along the way.

Cross-play

Steam (Windows and Mac) and Android players can play together. The iOS version will join cross-play when it launches.

Players on different devices can compete together through Random Match or private rooms with friends. Whether your friends play on a PC or a phone, you can all join the same art club.
