Bones Keeper Studio presents Misspell — a dark fairy tale in the 2D Metroidvania genre

Set foot on the mysterious island of Melanor and uncover the forgotten legacy of a long-lost civilization in this indie studio’s debut title.

Indie team Bones Keeper Studio introduces Misspell to the public — a hand-crafted 2D Metroidvania they've been quietly building for the past several months, now nearing its first playable demo.

Set on the isolated island of Melanor, the game invites players to explore a world where vibrant beauty masks the remnants of an ancient magical disaster. Uncover the past, grow your powers, and shape the island’s future through meaningful choices and evolving abilities.

Players step into the shoes of a young heroine who wakes up with no memory — her only companion is a sentient magical vine entwined around her arm. This living thread acts as her weapon, her tool, and her link to the island’s ancient magic. As she ventures deeper, players can evolve the vine’s powers, open new pathways, and recover lost artifacts scattered across Melanor.

“Misspell began as a dream — one that took root long before we even had a computer to build it on. At first, it was just a simple arcade idea, but the deeper we went, the clearer it became: we weren’t just making a game — we were building a world we wanted to live in,” says Evgenii, one of the developers at Bones Keeper Studio. “It’s a coming-of-age story — both for the heroine, and for us.”

Key Features:

  • A Hand-Crafted World: Every element in Misspell is lovingly drawn by hand — from vast landscapes to the smallest bits of scenery. Its whimsical, fairy-tale look slowly gives way to a darker tone, mirroring the heroine’s journey toward the truths hidden behind the veil of magic.
  • A living bond with magic: A symbiotic vine coils around the heroine’s arm — her loyal companion and link to the island. It’s more than a weapon: it extends her body, letting her slash, shoot, pull, and hold — connecting her with the world around her.
  • Explore. Evolve. Discover: Harness the energy of ancient artifacts to unlock new forms and abilities for the vine. Gain access to hidden paths, defeat foes, uncover secrets, and reach previously inaccessible areas of the island.
  • Non-linear Narrative: Choices are rarely obvious — but always inevitable. Some characters will stay, others will vanish, leaving only a trace. The ending won’t depend on strength, but on the words, actions, and decisions you leave behind

Availability: A playable demo lands on PC (Steam) in October 2025 — with the full release coming later.
