Thieves & Gold launches its biggest demo update: rebuilt Town, guided onboarding, and a new Mimic encounter

The incremental heist game from solo developer Razvan Moraru overhauls its free demo with its first major update since May, available now on Steam

HERZOGENAURACH, Germany, July 23, 2026: Thieves & Gold, an incremental heist game from solo developer Razvan Moraru and RzvGames, today launched the biggest update its free demo has received and the first major one since May. The Town has been rebuilt, the opening heist is now guided by the characters themselves, and players can encounter a Mimic for the first time. The updated demo is available now on Steam.

The pitch is simple and the runs rarely are: steal as much gold as you can, escape before the timer runs out, and watch the chaos compound as your greed outpaces your exit plan.

What the update changes

A rebuilt Town. A redesigned target list and building detail view make jobs, rewards, occupants, and crew assignments much easier to understand. Town payouts now grow alongside the rooms players unlock.

Character-led onboarding. The player’s first thief guides newcomers through targeting, breaking containers, collecting loot, finding keys, and completing the opening room.

A new Mimic encounter. Mimics make their debut in the demo as a new encounter, with distinct reveal, combat, reward, and destruction feedback.

Improved heist controls. Players can now hold the button to throw consecutive bombs, while improved hammer targeting makes selecting containers more dependable.

Clearer progression and results. The run-results screen now includes a more detailed loot ledger and challenge recap. Major Skill Tree unlocks are easier to identify, upgrade descriptions more clearly explain their outcomes, and challenge progress is easier to read.

Fairer rooms and cleaner destruction. Unreachable loot can no longer prevent a room from clearing. Broken-object debris now settles, fades, and disappears naturally instead of abruptly popping away.

German language support. The complete demo now includes reviewed German localization across menus, tutorials, HUD, results, progression, Town, artifacts, and tooltips.

“The Mimic started as a joke, but it became one of my favorite surprises in the demo,” said Razvan Moraru. “Watching a chest steal your loot just as you are about to end the run is exactly the kind of disaster this game is built around.”

The update follows May’s “Hover Polish, Skill Tree Previews & Big Balance Pass” and represents the largest collection of player-facing demo improvements since that release.

The update arrives while Thieves & Gold is featured in Steam’s Games Composed in Germany event, running through July 27. The demo is free to play now, and the full game is planned for Q4 2026.
