FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
21 March 2025
Epsom, UK – March 21st, 2025 – Slitherine, the leading publisher of strategy and wargames, is pleased to report the successful participation of Marco Alessandro Minoli, the company’s Director of Publishing at the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. His session, part of the Business and Marketing track, took place on Thursday, March 20th.
Minoli’s talk focused on how to create economically sustainable video game franchises, and addressing the challenges faced by developers in an industry where even renowned studios sometimes close shortly after launching a new title. Drawing from over two decades of experience, Minoli provided key insights into long-term franchise success and strategic publishing approaches.
A veteran of the gaming industry - he played a pivotal role in launching the first Tomb Raider in Italy for PlayStation - Minoli joined Slitherine over 15 years ago. He has led the company’s publishing and licensing efforts, contributing to the success of licensed titles such as Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, and Starship Troopers: Terran Command. These games have collectively sold over 10 million copies across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
During the session, Minoli also discussed the upcoming release of Broken Arrow, a modern warfare real-time strategy game set to launch in mid-June. The title has already garnered significant anticipation, remaining firmly within the top 25 most wishlisted games on Steam for several months.
"Too often, we see successful studios fail just weeks after the release of their game, with enormous human costs. Building a sustainable game franchise isn’t just about launching a great title—it’s about creating long-term value for both players and developers. At Slitherine, we focus on deep engagement, strategic partnerships, and a publishing model that ensures longevity. Success isn’t measured by a single release, but by how well a game thrives years after launch, as we fully intend to do with our upcoming blockbuster, Broken Arrow." — Marco Alessandro Minoli, GDC 2025
Attendees praised the session for its practical insights and real-world examples, making it a valuable learning opportunity for developers and publishers seeking to build sustainable, long-term franchises in an ever-evolving industry.
