SPINCH Original Game Soundtrack Now Available

Artist Thesis Sahib transforms the sounds of SPINCH into a psychedelic chiptune dance party using Game Boys and more courtesy of Materia Collective

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEATTLE - August 20, 2020 - Materia Collective is excited to release the SPINCH (Original Game Soundtrack) by Thesis Sahib. This dance-inducing album features sampled Game Boys and other audio gadgets to create unique textures and a lush retro-flavored soundscape that pairs perfectly with this vibrant visual world. This soundtrack takes all the music and sounds from the game and turns them into a full-length cohesive album that is enjoyable both within and outside of the gaming experience. The SPINCH (Original Game Soundtrack) is available today on all platforms:

"My goal for this album was to present several longer playing 'song' versions of each world, pause screens, bonus worlds and many of the sound effects that I initially created for the game SPINCH and for these to all work together to create a full album," comments Thesis Sahib. "The combination of unique audio textures and sound sources not normally used to create a song (circuit bent toys, found sounds, Game Boy) and the fact that the songs can stand alone as their own piece yet reference the full game makes this album different."
In SPINCH, players transcend the material realm and assume the form of Spinch, a hyper-agile organism consumed by the quest to rescue a litter of its missing offspring, in this side-scrolling, psychedelic platformer from the mind of award-winning Canadian cartoonist, Jesse Jacobs. SPINCH is published by Akupara Games.

About James "Thesis Sahib" Kirkpatrick

Emerging from London Ontario with its strong history focused on regionalism, Kirkpatrick naturally reflected on what was directly in front of him in terms of subject matter and materials.

Well known for his participation in the early Canadian graffiti movement and as avant-garde hip hop artist Thesis Sahib, Kirkpatrick works in a variety of media including, drawing, painting, sound sculptures, murals, zines, comics, and mask-making. His paintings and sculptures incorporate kinetic and auditory elements as he combines his 2D aesthetic with altered electronic toys. Likewise, compositions written on modified Game Boys and circuit-bent sounds have become part of his music and on-stage performances as Thesis Sahib and the European/Canadian band AWARDS.

A graduate of the Nova Scotia college of Art and Design, Kirkpatrick's music and visual art pursuits have taken him across North America, Europe, Asia and beyond. With numerous solo and group exhibitions, residencies and performances under his belt, Kirkpatrick is a multi-tasking, interdisciplinary and prolific artist. He joins a long tradition of artists whose art making is entwined with an exploration of everyday life and a search to understand our place in the world.
