Penguin surveillance increased in RuneScape just in time for 12th Anniversary of Distractions and Diversions

Popular minigame gets a cool update and a new Distraction and Diversion is added into RuneScape

Monday 14th September 2020, Cambridge, UK – Jagex, creators and custodians of the iconic living game RuneScape, today introduced a refresh of Distractions and Diversions, marking 12 years of D&D content in the game.

The developers took a closer look at the classic Distraction and Diversion Penguin Hide and Seek and have added new rewards, updated graphics, and an elusive bunch of frosty secret agent penguins. Additionally, a new advanced Distraction and Diversion has been introduced – The Effigy Incubator.

Penguin Hide and Seek
Building on the popular Penguin quest line, Penguin Hide and Seek challenges players to seek out and find members of the KGP (Killer Gentoo Penguins) who have infiltrated Gielinor. The PBJ (Polar Bears for Justice) has noticed an increase in KGP activity thanks to an influx of new Secret Agent penguins. Players who participate in this improved Distraction and Diversion will be able to gain new rewards including the Sheldon the Baby Penguin pet, new titles, and a penguin tracking device.

The Effigy Incubator
Players who have completed the recently released Desperate Measures quest will be able to take part in a new advanced Distraction and Diversion – The Effigy Incubator. A frenzied, time-based D&D that gives windfalls of XP every month, but also pumps out best-in-slot urns. Players can use these urns while they are out in the world to aid their skilling. The powerful effigies have existed and been appreciated in game since June 2010, and successful adventurers will discover Kerapac’s secret lab to make their own, while revealing intriguing new dragonkin lore.

Distractions and Diversions - a popular content type in RuneScape - offer minigames for when players want a break from the game’s everyday cycle of quests, combat and skilling. With over 30 different activities, these minigames renew on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and ensure that there is always extra entertainment to be had outside of the core gameplay.
