Mobile Games Market Review: Interactive gachas, ad monetized events, and the rise of the solitaire subgenre

GameRefinery, a Liftoff company, has shared its latest monthly report covering the mobile games market. Backed by the latest data and expert insights from GameRefinery’s analysts, the report highlights all the new releases, performance-boosting live events, and notable game updates that have risen to the forefront in April 2025.

Here’s what GameRefinery found:

  • Cash Tornado Slots introduced a new co-op event that lets players form squads of up to four players and progress via a shared progression bar. This is a notable update as co-op and shared progression mechanics in the casino/slots genre are incredibly rare. As Cash Tornado Slots is one of the most popular games in the genre, expect to see similar features rolled out across its competitors.

  • Interactive gachas – gachas which are opened by players repeatedly tapping the gacha – continue to grow in popularity. Last War: Survival added a limited-time Easter Egg gacha called ‘Surprise Egg’ and a permanent gacha, ‘Adventurers Chest’, which provide players with an opportunity to double or increase the rarity of their rewards with up to five taps.

  • SD Gundam G Generation ETERNAL, a new turn-based RPG based on the Gundam series, launched to a top position in the top-grossing charts in Japan.

  • The Solitaire subgenre is very popular at the moment, as demonstrated by the success of SuperPlay’s latest release, Disney Solitaire, which hit the top spot in the download chart while peaking at #46 in the top-grossing chart. The game combines Disney IP with the foundational elements players know from other SuperPlay titles such as Domino Dreams.

  • Lily’s Garden added Roxy Garden, a new ad monetized digging event. The event puts an ad-driven twist on the digging minigame format, as players are forced to watch ads before every digging attempt, with no option to progress by playing levels or purchasing currency. Minigame events are a great way for developers to keep existing users engaged with fresh gameplay or entice new users through lower CIP creatives.
