Düsseldorf/Germany, March 13, 2025 – Düsseldorf-based video game developer and publisher astragon Entertainment and Vienna-based developer studio Mi'pu'mi Games today announce the release of Heart of Rot, a free content update for the tactical, narrative fairy tale Howl, in which players must rid the world of a plague, the eponymous “Howl”. Heart of Rot offers many improvements, new difficulty adjustments and a completely new chapter. Howl is available for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, in the Epic Games Store ($9.99 / £8.99 / 9,99€ SRP each) and mobile for iOS and Android devices ($3.99 / 4.99€ / 3,99 £ SRP each). With Howl, Mi'pu'mi has developed a turn-based, tactical-narrative adventure set in a medieval fantasy world. As a deaf Prophetess, players must use their weapons and wits to survive in a world ravaged by a sonic plague that is turning people into wolves. Every step must be planned well in advance to outmaneuver the adversaries.
In Heart of Rot, a side story takes the Prophetess to the capital, a city that has long been a bastion of hope in a world overrun by beasts. The Prophetess has heard rumors that the alchemists there have found a cure for the plague. When she arrives though, she finds a city consumed by rot.
Heart of Rot features its own chapter map, new enemies, a new boss level, innovative environmental mechanics, the new ability “Lightning Shot” (which can also be used in the main game once unlocked) and a new character: Geli, the Chief Alchemist, who fights alongside the Prophetess in later levels.
Contents of the new chapter:
- 16 new tactical puzzles that will keep beginners and experienced players on their toes.
- Two new enemy types and a new boss where thinking ahead is essential.
- New ability: Lightning Shot. The secret technique of the royal guard can also be used in battles in the base game.
- New game world: Rot has infested the capital. The Prophetess must cleanse it with fire!
- New story: The fall of the capital. The city had withstood the plague. Now the walls are crumbling and the city is rotting from the inside out.
- The companion: Geli, the chief alchemist, helps in the fight against the plague, which is spreading from within.
Improvements and adjustments to the difficulty level:
- Optimization of the preview of enemy actions during your own turn planning.
- Translation errors from the original version have been corrected.
- “Assist Mode” becomes the default difficulty setting (easier to get started).
- “Hard Mode” (deactivated “Assist Mode”) for a greater challenge.
- Better balance between accessibility (newcomers) and depth of challenge (veterans).
Howl: Heart of Rot is now available for free for all owners of the base game for Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, in the Epic Games Store and mobile for iOS and Android devices.
