A Simple Expurriment will start on October 28

A comical, semi-cozy and stranger-than-it-seems metroidvania with no combat and lots of head scratching.

About the game

Finding herself in space by hitching a ride with the alien who kidnapped her three kittens, a cat mom will need all of her feline traits in order to find them as she evades the security systems in the search for such an unexpected visitor. Little they know they're all part of an experiment that aims to understand cats' impressive influence over humans, run by the greedy Toilet Analyst of an even greedier extraterrestrial corporation.

A Simple Expurriment blends metroidvania exploration and puzzle mechanics, replacing combat by stealth and spatial thinking. Here you’ll find no enemies to defeat, but plenty of dangers to avoid - easy thing for a cat, especially the three kittens who received genetic upgrades and got superfeline abilities. And when not even those mutations can help, you can always count on a human brain to do what sharp claws can’t: find your way by combining parts of the ship, bring all the cats together… and then things will start to get weird.

This game is 100% AI-free: all art, code and text was made without the aid of LLMs or other AI tools.

Features

  • Use the kittens’ genetic upgrades to jump higher, turn to liquid, and do other typical (or not so typical) cat things.

  • Use the ship’s transport system to move between the four main areas and manipulate their sectors to open new ways.

  • Make a crucial decision that will lead the experiment to one of two possible outcomes. Each path has different obstacles and a final challenge. Both are chaotic.

  • After getting one of the endings, it’s possible to return directly to the decision point and follow the other route.

Game length

In a world that has so many games for so little time, players’ attention must be valued. This game aims to provide a reasonably-sized and satisfying experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. A blind playthrough should take between 5 and 6 hours, with another hour or so for the other ending. Getting all collectibles can be a little tricky, but that’s left for the more dedicated players who can’t stand missing a single pop culture reference.
