Daniel Dawkins, Content Director - Games, Video and Digital Events commented:
“2023 is a remarkable year, not just for one or two stellar titles - although Baldur’s Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom may yet lay historical claims to greatness - but for the sheer breadth of critically-acclaimed blockbusters, new IPs, indies, sequels and remakes. In the last 12 months, hundreds of high-scoring releases could lay legitimate claim to our Ultimate Game of the Year shortlist, which has made compiling our nominees a thrilling, but difficult task.

To that end, we’ve created our biggest ever UGOTY shortlist, where a large volume of exceptional games still miss out. With vigorous, innovative, several-hour indies like Cocoon alongside 100+ hour epics like Baldur’s Gate 3 or Starfield, it’s never been more difficult for our judging panel to discuss a game’s relative merits. And that’s without the complication of online titles being constantly patched and improved, while more major releases tread the line between game expansion and full-blown title, leading to difficult decisions.

The nuance extends to our Best Lead Performer and Best Supporting Performer categories. Alan Wake 2 sees three actors nominated, while picking a stand-out performance from the Baldur’s Gate 3 companion cast was… eventful. That’s the beauty of the Golden Joystick Awards. However much the judges contort themselves, the choice belongs to the voting public. We can’t wait to see what you choose as your Ultimate Game of the Year, in arguably one of the greatest years for high-scoring games of all time”.

Troy Baker will host the awards alongside guest presenters from the world of gaming including actors Manon Gage, Maggie Robertson and Neil Newbon; Elvira Björkman and Nicklas Hjertberg from Two Feathers and Gosia Mitręga, Executive Producer of the new Witcher saga at CD PROJEKT RED.

The winners will be revealed in a celebration of games in London and live-streamed globally on all major streaming platforms on Friday, November 10, 2023. Viewers can watch the awards live via YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook and Twitter/X as well as GamesRadar, PCGamer and TechRadar Gaming.
