"After 25 years of conceiving and creating projects on my own, I let my son take the reins on his idea for an album," says album arranger/producer Mustin. "I'm getting older and how better to create music for a new generation of listeners than to let Gen Z lead a project. As the Mario games continue to be updated and re-released on the Nintendo Switch, the music has become timeless across multiple generations. It's been great to work with my son, and with the release of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, the timing couldn't be more perfect."
"I don't know what I'm doing," says Logan Mustin, Executive Producer of the album. "I saw him make a track in 40 minutes during Christmas. I was mad that he didn't recognize his untapped talent for making good music quickly, so I tapped in. I thought it would be cool to work with my dad and see how this process of making music and albums works. I never thought I'd be telling my dad what to do but it was a really fun experience."
The digital album can be found on all major streaming platforms at bit.ly/mariomixtape A physical CD will be released April 14 to coincide with the first day of VGM Con, a convention focused on the music of video games. The CD version will contain an extra track from Super Mario World and will be available from bit.ly/mariomixtapecd.
