Space Engineers: Economy 2 Update & Pack Live Now!

Prague, Czech Republic – 27 April 2026 – Keen Software House is excited to announce that major Space Engineers update Economy 2 is available now across all platforms, bringing the largest economy update in the history of Space Engineers. This free update transforms NPC trade stations into bustling hubs of activity, adds the Services Terminal for grid storage, repair and salvage, introduces a completely overhauled economy interface, expands contracts and factions, and includes new stations, ships, NPCs and structural blocks.

A new Services Terminal

At the heart of Economy 2 is the new Services Terminal. Players can now store entire grids and later redeploy their ships or vehicles wherever they need them. The same terminal also offers paid grid repair and salvage services, letting players quickly restore damaged craft or sell unwanted grids for Space Credits without having to dismantle them by hand. Retrieval times can be customised, and server administrators have granular settings to control how the system behaves.

Revamped Trading and Contracts

Economy 2 introduces a completely redesigned economy system with a new Economy Overview that combines store and contract information in a single view, along with an Item Search tab for remote market searches. Store Blocks now support trading Hydrogen and Oxygen between players and have more listings, while NPC prices have been rebalanced to encourage player‑owned stores. The ModAPI has been expanded, giving server admins and modders deeper control over contracts, stations and trade behaviour.

Contracts have been significantly expanded and rebalanced. New mission types include Courier, Search, PvE Bounty, Hauling, Salvage, Item Recovery and Grid Recovery contracts, each with its own risk–reward profile. Escort contracts have been removed, and payouts and difficulty have been adjusted to make contracts more rewarding and less repetitive.

Stations, Factions and NPCs

NPC factions are easier to discover and more interesting to interact with. Seventeen new station prefabs have been added across planetary, orbital and deep‑space environments, giving stations distinct names, layouts and billboard advertising that can reveal new locations. The ship market now includes 43 new and updated prefabs – from ships and rovers to drones and missiles – offering players ready‑made grids they can customise and expand. For the first time, animated NPC characters now populate trade stations, thanks to extensive research into pathfinding and player reactions.

Other free additions include a set of large‑grid Structural Blocks, Safe Zone improvements, expanded controller customisation, inventory improvements and new mission items. Space Engineers 2 owners on Steam also receive the Almagest Engineer Plushie as a small-grid decorative item.

Economy 2 Pack

Alongside the free update, an optional Economy 2 Pack adds more than 40 decorative blocks, including Vivariums, Billboard LCDs, Bulk Cargo containers, Floorplan Signs, Angled Doors, Narrow Viewports and a Safe Zone Type II generator. The pack is priced at USD 4.99 and offers an easy way for players to support ongoing development while expanding their building options.
