Solo Developer's Party Game Fits Eight Players on One Keyboard and Two Controllers at Steam Next Fest

Scales of Silence is a couch-first multiplayer game built around a simple idea: keep everyone involved and make game night work with the hardware people already have. Up to eight players can battle on a single screen, while a separate 500-level campaign supports solo and 2-player co-op.

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA / June 8, 2026 – Great couch multiplayer games live or die on momentum. Long setup screens slow things down. Missing controllers leave people sitting out. Early elimination turns active players into spectators.

Scales of Silence is available now as part of Steam Next Fest, with a polished demo featuring local multiplayer battles and the opening chapter of the game's campaign.

Getting everyone into the game is where Scales of Silence turns a simple control scheme into a multiplayer advantage.

A single keyboard splits into four independent control schemes: WASD, IJKL, Arrow Keys, and Numpad. Each gamepad handles two players simultaneously by dividing controls across its left and right sticks. One keyboard and two controllers puts a full table on the same screen with hardware most households already own. Bring more controllers if you have them; the game supports up to eight. No accounts, no internet connection, no configuration screen. Everyone joins by pressing Up.

"I wanted the game you could start in thirty seconds with whoever showed up," said Cinder, founder of Aggro Games. "No one should go home because you don't have enough controllers."

Keeping everyone engaged required rethinking what happens when players collide. Instead of instant elimination, collisions make snakes shrink. Length becomes a health bar: larger snakes can absorb punishment while smaller ones fight to survive. Players earn points for finishing opponents, but defeated snakes quickly respawn, preventing early knockouts from turning active players into spectators.

While built for local multiplayer, Scales of Silence also includes a full story campaign playable solo or in 2-player co-op. Two serpent factions wage war while an ancient darkness feeds on the conflict across 500 levels and ten distinct biomes. Forests choke your sightlines. Swamps replace most food with poison. Volcanoes lock the board in permanent darkness while enemy portals open from the first second. Every boss defeated joins your multiplayer roster with distinct stats and a unique ability.

The game's vibrant presentation, instant setup, and unpredictable multiplayer matches are designed for crowded living rooms and content creators. Steam Remote Play Together is also supported for players who want to bring remote friends into the action.

The Steam Next Fest demo includes two battle modes, the opening story arc, eleven playable characters, and culminates in a boss fight. Progress carries over to the full game on purchase. The Next Fest build v0.6.6 serves as the final large-scale playtest before Early Access, with launch planned shortly after community feedback has been reviewed and implemented.
