Slitherine, a leading publisher of strategy games and recently in the spotlight for the successful launch of their new game Broken Arrow, is celebrating 25 years of activity this year. To mark the occasion, on Wednesday, 9th July Slitherine will host a live show on Twitch, where it will discuss the past challenges of starting up a new company, the present successes in a changing market, and the future projects and plans.
The Past: How Everything Started
Founded in 2000 by JD McNeil and Iain McNeil, Slitherine was created with a clear purpose: to bring strategy and wargaming to a passionate audience. The first major success was Legion (2002), a turn-based strategy game set in ancient Rome, which helped establish their reputation in the genre. In 2010, Slitherine merged with Matrix Games, another major name in the strategy world. This move strengthened Slitherine's position as the publisher of reference for serious wargamers.
Over the years, trust in the publisher has grown significantly, leading major licensors to collaborate on the creation of high-quality strategy games. Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon was the first in a series of popular franchise-based titles that cultivated dedicated fan bases and a plethora of successful DLCs. This was followed by Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, Warhammer 40,000 Gladius, Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, and Terminator: Dark Fate - Defiance. Together, these titles formed a solid platform for developing new, genre-defining franchises with loyal communities.

The Future: What's Next
During the event on July 9th on Slitherine’s Twitch channel, the Slitherine Next 2025 - 25th Anniversary Opening Ceremony will take place. This event will kick off six months of celebration, featuring a look back at the company’s history, reflections on the present—with major titles like Broken Arrow and Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance gaining attention—and a glimpse into the future, with news and surprises for many franchises and games such as Distant Worlds 2, Panzer Corps 2, Scramble: Battle of Britain, RuneQuest: Warlords, Stormbinders, and more.
The live event will be hosted by Marco A. Minoli, Director of Publishing, alongside David Sharrock, Executive Producer and Game Director, and Neil McKenna, Lead External Producer. Throughout the live stream, several key members of the team will share exclusive insights about the games and the latest news.
