For release Monday 1 September
Veteran game designer Alistair Aitcheson has released his new Math learning game Skies of Numberland for iPhone and iPad to coincide with the beginning of the new UK school year.
The game is aimed at the 9-14 age group, supporting learners with good times tables foundations in applying that knowledge to factorising and division. Playing out as a fast-paced arcade game, the player must connect clouds to match the factors of a given number, in doing so recovering fragments of islands in the sky.
Creator Alistair Aitcheson is a veteran of mobile games and educational software. From 2013 to 2025 he was the lead game designer and primary game programmer for Sparx Learning, the UK's leading secondary school maths product, used in over 2400 schools. Working closely with young learners in the classroom, he developed a deep understanding of students' needs and processes of learning mathematics.
In 2011 Alistair Aitcheson launched puzzle game Greedy Bankers for iPhone to critical acclaim, followed by 2013's Slamjet Stadium which was nominated for multiple awards by Pocket Gamer and featured on the front page of the iPad app store in 61 countries. Since then he has won industry awards for his work in interactive stage shows, livestreams and playable museum installations. These include three IndieCade awards and the grand prize from the Creative Gaming Awards in Hamburg.
Alistair hopes his new game's liveliness, usability, and intuitive user experience design, will provide a fun and exciting way for young learners to develop their fluency with number, laying the foundations for learning fractions and other more advanced topics as they enter secondary school.
