Realpolitiks 4 Announced. Salient Games Takes the Series Back to Its Roots!

A new owner, a new team, and a return to the foundations of the original Realpolitiks. The fourth installment in the geopolitical strategy series will launch in 2027, marking the franchise’s tenth anniversary. A playable demo is expected within a few weeks, giving players an early opportunity to experience the changes firsthand.

Salient Games announces Realpolitiks 4: Back to the Roots, the next installment in the grand strategy series that lets players lead virtually any country and shape global politics. The game returns to the foundations of the original Realpolitiks: accessible real-time gameplay, the freedom to set your own goals, and competition in which economic strength, diplomacy, and military power are tools for building a nation’s standing. It expands this formula with new systems and a clearer interface, making it easier to assess the situation and understand the consequences of your decisions.

The announcement marks a fresh start for the series, following Salient Games’ acquisition of the rights to the Realpolitiks franchise. A new team is developing the fourth installment, beginning with a thorough review of previous entries: the features that worked best, the elements that needed improvement, and feedback from the community. The original Realpolitiks, the best-received game in the series, remains the primary point of reference.

The subtitle Back to the Roots defines this direction. The developers aim to preserve the immediacy and freedom of the original while giving players more ways to influence their country’s domestic affairs and international standing. A redesigned interface, better-organized information, and clearer presentation of the consequences of decisions are intended to help both series veterans and newcomers to geopolitical strategy.

The main scenario, “Into the New Millennium,” begins on January 1, 2000, when many of the events that shaped today’s world had yet to unfold. Players will face the challenges of the past quarter-century and have the opportunity to influence their course: from economic crises and the expansion of international organizations to rising tensions and conflicts. Their decisions can set their country, and the world around it, on a different path.

Realpolitiks 4 will let players define success on their own terms: economic might, military dominance, space conquest, or the global spread of their chosen ideology. They can even seek to reshape the world order so that far-left or far-right governments become the dominant force.

New and expanded features in Realpolitiks 4 include:

  • International organizations: deeper cooperation and competition within institutions such as the EU, NATO, CIS and BRICS, featuring accession processes, voting, and opportunities to influence their future.

  • Advisors with their own agendas: figures inspired by Bismarck, Keynes, Adam Smith, and others, offering different development paths and reform projects. Maintaining their trust will depend on the policies you pursue.

  • Interest groups and public opinion: groups that react to conditions in the country, make demands, and compete for public support. Governments can cooperate with their leaders or take action to undermine them, facing the political consequences.

  • Tax policy: shape taxation and seek a balance between government revenue, economic development, and public sentiment.

  • Stock markets and investment: grow national capital through financial investments while navigating the opportunities and risks of changing market conditions.

  • Greater control over military operations: choose the forces, operational pace, and launch date, taking logistics, terrain, and weather into account. Clearer forecasts will help players assess their chances of success and expected losses.

  • Space conquest: develop a space program and expand beyond Earth, opening another arena for international competition.

  • Expanded historical events and decisions: global crises and country-specific challenges that offer opportunities to shape an alternative course for the twenty-first century.

LAUNCH DATE:

The original Realpolitiks was released on February 16, 2017. The fourth installment’s planned 2027 PC launch will therefore mark the franchise’s tenth anniversary.

Players will be able to judge the series’ new direction for themselves before launch. Salient Games plans to release a playable Realpolitiks 4 demo within a few weeks of the announcement, offering a firsthand look at the changes and the series’ return to its roots.
