Despite the game's success and the vocal demand for new content, securing traditional funding for a direct sequel or a large-scale expansion proved incredibly challenging in the current, often dire, landscape of the games industry. While Paleo Pines has been incredibly popular and well-received by players, the financial benefits haven't trickled down to the studio in a way that supports ambitious new development due to the industry standard publisher-studio model.
"It's a tough industry, and even with a successful launch, getting a green light for significant new development can be incredibly difficult, with many studios struggling to secure the necessary investment," explains Kevin Beimers, CEO of Italic Pig. "We diligently pursued additional funding, approaching over 50 publishers in our efforts to secure the resources needed for this expansion or a sequel, but to no avail. That's why we're turning to the very people who made Paleo Pines a success – our players. This Kickstarter isn't just an option; it's truly the only way for us to bypass these traditional funding hurdles and work directly with our community to bring their most requested features to life, ensuring the future growth of Paleo Pines."
The Kickstarter campaign will feature various tiers, offering exclusive rewards such as early access to the expansion, unique in-game items, opportunities to select new dino colours, and even behind-the-scenes access to the development process. The funds raised will allow us to bring multiple original team members back to the project and directly support the development of a swamp region, adding spinos, and so many player-requested enhancements.
