Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. starts in War Thunder

A modern Canadian tank, a transforming Italian gunboat and other new vehicles await players

Gaijin Entertainment announces the start of the Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. player event in War Thunder. Up until August the 31st, players are able to complete in-game tasks in battle to get six new and exclusive vehicles: Ar 196 A-3 hydroplane, Infanterikanonvagn 73 tank, Freccia P-493 gunboat, F11F-1 Tiger fighter jet, Leopard C2A1 tank and “Maxim Gorky” light cruiser, as well as camouflages and decals.

All new vehicles represent different countries and technological eras.

The F11F-1 Tiger was an American carrier-based fighter developed in the 50’s for the needs of the US Navy. It became one of the first supersonic aircraft in service with the Navy and actually did not stay in service for long - new, faster jets began to replace the Tiger very quickly. The fighter remained in the ranks of the famous US Navy aerobatic team, the Blue Angels, for the greater time.

The Maxim Gorky is a Soviet Kirov-class light cruiser with more powerful anti-air weapons. It took part in the defense of Leningrad during World War II.

Leopard C2A1 is a modification of German Leopard 1 MBT built for the Canadian army and battle-tested in Afghanistan. It boasts MEXAS mounted composite armor, designed primarily to increase the survivability of the tank against infantry anti-tank weapons.

Infanterikanonvagn 73 – was a Swedish self-propelled infantry support vehicle made in the 50’s from the existing stock of Strv m/42 EH medium tanks.

The Freccia gunboat served in the Italian navy from  1965 until 1985 and was built with a modular principle in mind, allowing it to easily swap the weapon systems. In War Thunder the Freccia is presented in its gunboat form with three 40mm Bofors automatic cannons, which it can use against both enemy vessels and aircraft, but one of the cannons can be replaced with a pair of torpedoes.

The German Ar 196 A-3 hydroplane is one of the best naval scouts in history, nicknamed "the eyes of the Kriegsmarine"! It is armed with a pair of 20mm MG FF cannons and an MG 17 rifle caliber machine gun, it can also carry 2x50 kg bombs under its wings. This fancy plane was created by War Thunder players and WT.Live service users: Vitaly "NovA29R" Vostokov worked on the aircraft model, and Daniil "Joy_Division__" Zaitsev created the Ar 196 A-3 cockpit.

To participate in Operation S.U.M.M.E.R. and to get access to the exclusive vehicles, players can participate in regular Random Battles, where they earn distinct “Stars” for tankers, pilots and captains that unlock prizes, such as decals, camouflages and the aforementioned vehicles. Unlocked Ar 196 A-3, Infanterikanonvagn 73, Freccia P-493 are automatically added to the player account, while F11F-1 Tiger, Leopard C2A1 and “Maxim Gorky” are given out as vehicle coupons that can be used by the player to either get the vehicles for themselves, or sell them to other players on the Gaijin Market.

The full list of prizes and rules of the event are available at the official War Thunder website.
