SCARY BABOON LAUNCHES PET UPDATE AS VIDCON MOMENTUM TURNS INTO NEW IN-GAME OBSESSION

The Pet Update adds a whole host of new collectible pet characters to Scary Baboon

  • Players can hatch pets from eggs, equip them, pet them, show off their collection, and trade up for rarer pets
  • The update follows ENVER’s successful VidCon appearance and continues Scary Baboon’s rapid cadence of major live updates

Press Release, 13th July, 2026  – Fresh from a packed first VidCon, Scary Baboon is giving its community something new to collect, show off and obsess over: pets. The Pet Update introduces a major new collectible companion system to one of Meta Quest’s most popular social horror games, adding a whole host of new characters players can hatch, equip, pet, trade up and display inside the game.

The update adds a wide variety of new pet characters, giving players their own lil babs to hatch, collect, equip, show off, and trade up for rarer companions. Pets can follow players around, react with emotions, bounce around inside a player’s pet pen, and become part of how players express themselves inside Scary Baboon’s chaotic social horror world.

The Pet Update is one of Scary Baboon’s biggest character-focused updates so far. Players can now buy an egg, throw it down, watch it hatch, meet their new pet, equip pets from their inventory, and track their growing collection through the pet index. They can also trade up for rarer pets, giving the update a new collection loop for players who want to hatch them all.

While the pets are primarily cosmetic for now, the system is designed as the beginning of a larger feature rollout. More behaviours, interactions, and ways to use pets are planned for future updates.

The update also adds a new kind of social showcase inside the game. Players can fill up their pet pen, watch their pets bouncing around, compare collections with friends, and show off their rarest hatches to the wider community.

Scary Baboon has become one of Meta Quest’s most talked-about social horror games. A chaotic multiplayer VR horror sandbox set inside a failed lab experiment, the game has grown through jump scares, monster chases, creator clips, community theories, and a constant feedback loop between players and the ENVER team.

That community is now one of the largest in VR. Scary Baboon’s official Discord has grown to more than 200,000 members, with players sharing clips, reactions, theories, monster sightings, update requests, and ideas for where the game should go next.

The Pet Update follows a run of major Scary Baboon updates that have helped push the game up the Meta Quest charts and deepen its community-led momentum. Dreamcore sent players into a strange, surreal dream-world environment. Fight Back gave players the chance to fight back against monsters for the first time. Toxic revamped fan-favourite maps with flooding sewers, a haunted hospital, and new quality-of-life improvements.

Together, those updates have signalled ENVER’s continued live update cadence for Scary Baboon, with regular themed drops built around ideas the community can immediately understand, play with, clip, and share.

The Pet Update follows a hugely successful VidCon debut for Scary Baboon, where ENVER’s stand became a magnet for players, creators and families throughout the event. What began as a booth quickly turned into a meeting point for the game’s community, with fans queuing up to meet the team, connect with KJ1, share feedback, take photos and celebrate the VR world they had helped build online. The Pet Update gives that community something new to collect, compare, trade, show off and talk about together.

“VidCon showed us that the Scary Baboon community is not just big, it’s very real. Players, creators and families all showed up. The Pet Update gives that community something new to collect, compare, trade, show off and argue about together,” said Will Creighton, Game Director at ENVER.

Scary Baboon has passed millions of downloads, holds a 4.6-star rating across more than 59,000 ratings on Meta Quest, and attracts millions of monthly views across YouTube, where creators and fan channels have helped turn its monsters, maps, failed experiments, and now pets into a constant stream of content.

The Pet Update is available in Scary Baboon on Meta Quest now.
