Northanda Chronicles Brings One Deck, Three Heroes, and an Undead King to Steam Deckbuilders Fest 2026

Australian-made party-based roguelike invites players to try the demo during Steam Deckbuilders Fest, and join exclusive Act 2 playtests set in the fallen city of Valmire.

Sydney, Australia – MAY 2 2026: Hyperfocus Interactive is proud to announce that Northanda Chronicles, the party-based roguelike deckbuilder, is officially featured in the Steam Deckbuilders Fest 2026, running from May 4 to May 11. Players can jump into the demo throughout the festival, wishlist the game on Steam, and join the community to register for exclusive Act 2 playtests set to launch immediately following the event.

Three Heroes, One Shared Deck

Northanda Chronicles is a roguelike deckbuilder where three heroes share a single deck. Instead of building around a lone character, players command a classic RPG party: the Defender, the Slayer, and the Support.

In a unique twist on the genre, every card draft ripples across the entire party. A powerful attack may help the Slayer execute a finishing blow, but players must ensure the Defender has the tools to absorb mounting pressure and the Support has the resources to keep the group standing. With each hero managing an individual mana pool, every turn becomes a high-stakes puzzle of role synergy and resource management.

Into the Void: The Act 2 Playtests

At the conclusion of Steam Deckbuilders Fest, Northanda Chronicles will open playtests for Act 2, transporting players into the ruins of Valmire.

“Valmire rots in the Void’s grasp. Its people have turned mad. The dead will not stay buried. Scavengers pick at the bones of what remains. At the city’s heart, a broken Fountain stirs. From the tomb below, Varoth, the Forgotten King, yearns to command his dead.”

Act 2 introduces new enemies, events, and encounters designed to test the party’s bonds. Players will face increasingly difficult tactical decisions on the battlefield as they confront the forces of the Forgotten King.

“With Northanda Chronicles, we wanted to make a deckbuilder where every choice ripples across your party,” said Isaac Boulton, co-creator of Northanda Chronicles. “Act 2 pushes that idea further. Valmire is hostile, unstable, and full of fights that reward tactical thinking. We want playtesters who enjoy pulling systems apart and want to explore the world we’ve created together.”

Players can try the current demo during Steam Deckbuilders Fest 2026 and join the Northanda Chronicles Discord to register interest in the Act 2 playtests.

Key Features

Three Heroes, One Shared Deck:

Build a single deck for a full party. Every draft impacts your damage, defense, and long-term survival.

Role-based Party Strategy:

Focus on synergy rather than a single overpowered hero. Aggro control, mana management, and event choices revolve around how the party works together.

Individual Mana & Shared Initiative:

Each hero manages their own resource pool, while the shared Initiative system turns every draw into an intuitive yet intricate tactical puzzle.

Role-paired Summons:

Summons protect adjacent allies and support specific heroes, opening board-control strategies that change how your party survives.

Active Defense:

Use your Defender and Summons to absorb, redirect, or mitigate damage. Defense is an active part of every turn and a core pillar of your build strategy.

Gem-Based Customization:

Modify cards to interact with roles and party needs, creating uniquely emergent synergies and combos that chain into wildly snowballing builds.

Act 2: The Fallen City of Valmire

Face Varoth, the Forgotten King. Act 2 brings new enemies, events, and encounters designed to test the bonds of the party. Players will face up against harder tactical decisions on the battlefield as they confront the forces of the King.
