The folks at BitBeamCannon have launched a Kickstarter campaign for their next game titled Metal Mack. It's coming to the Mega Drive / Genesis, Neo Geo, and Steam. The campaign reached its initial funding goal within 18 hours and is now aiming to achieve stretch goals.
"The main character is a spoof of one very recognizable classic game character, but he definitely isn't wearing any blue. He'll traverse many levels that will often spoof other famous franchises."
The gameplay will branch off into different gameplay mechanics from your typical Mega Man game or clone, with unique special moves and an upgrade system that allows the player to buy abilities using currency earned from defeating a variety of robotic enemies and their crafty robotic bosses. This gives the player control over the type of play style they want to achieve.
"I was always a fan of run 'n' gun classic games, and considered those popular series to be just as great and viable as the top selling side scrolling games of the time. But after an early run of great titles, the Mega Man series seemed to lose its way. After seeing so many modern clones of that series trying to be exact replicas, it inspired me to create silly animated skits with this goofy parody character. People seemed to love the animated skits, so I've now decided to turn this into a real game." - Corey at BitBeamCannon
The game will feature many classic style run 'n' gun type levels. Also, other side challenges such as fast-paced shmup segments, mini-games, and humorous cutscenes, will keep things fresh throughout the length of the game.
BitBeamCannon is looking to reignite the true old-school run 'n' gun experience with Metal Mack. The game will even feature a cheat code system, which players can utilize to unlock special bonuses or even silly surprises within the game.
