Global game publisher CFK (headed by Chang-sig Koo) is proud to announce today (8/31) that the Nintendo Switch™ and Steam release date of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem, sequel to the gothic horror action classic, has been set for December 14th (Thursday). In addition, the Japanese physical edition will be available for pre-order on different Japanese websites.
Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem is the sequel to side-scrolling action game Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, a spinoff of the Touhou Project (東方Project) series, beloved by fans around the world. Following their previous collaboration, developer Frontier Aja and publisher CFK will present a united front as they continue to work together to develop the second entry in this franchise.
Banpai Akira (晩杯あきら), popular illustrator and artist for the previous game, continues to contribute to this series, adding a bold darkness to the design of the characters. This second entry breathes new life into the series through enhanced graphics, sound, movement, and unique action elements that add to the familiar experience of darting through the stage while dodging a barrage of bullets.

1) Overview
Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem is the second remaster of an entry into the Koumajou Densetsu series, a stand-alone interpretation of the world and characters of the Touhou Project franchise beloved by devoted fans, and based on the Touhou Project’s Perfect Cherry Blossom game.
Sakuya Izayoi, one of Remilia’s devoted followers, takes the lead in this game, set to the backdrop of her heading out to the Scarlet Devil Castle in search of news of the vanished Remilia, the inhabitants of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and the spring that won’t come.
2) Game features
- A major step forward in stylish action
Protagonist Sakuya Izayoi is skilled at close-range attacks using her blades. Along with the ‘flight’ power that allows players to move freely through the air for a certain amount of time, a ‘backstep’ action has also been added, allowing players to avoid enemy attacks during battle. In addition to that, several special attacks such as ‘Soul Sculpture,’ ‘kick,’ and ‘backstep knife throw’ have been added, allowing players to experience a new stylish sort of gameplay.
- ‘Sub-weapons’ and ‘partner system’ included, elements essential to any strategic playstyle
Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem allows players to equip up to three sub-weapons or partners before starting a stage, giving players a chance to read the situation and turn the tides in their favor. Finding the right timing for using sub-weapons and summoning partners will be key to finding a shortcut to clearing each stage.
For subweapons, players can select the knife throw Sakuya Izayoi specializes in or a pocket watch that stops time, and they can also summon characters from the Touhou series as partners to face down their enemies. Each partner has a unique set of skills.
With the announcement of the December 14th global release date of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem, CFK will also open pre-orders for the physical Nintendo Switch™ version of the game for Japanese audiences.
With the beginning of the pre-order process, CFK is working with a number of Japanese online stores to prepare unique perks available only in that particular package, increasing the value of each Nintendo Switch™ package purchased by players. Each store will have its own charming perk, and depending on the store, some of these may not be available outside of Japan.
In addition to the pre-order event in Japan, CFK is planning to release a physical Nintendo Switch™ version of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem for fans around the world. Details will be announced at a later date.
Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem was first unveiled to the public last September at the Tokyo Game Show 2022. The official website for the game is now open, introducing the various contents the game has in store to players.
The previous entry into the series, Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, became a fan favorite when the developers reworked the game with HD graphics and added new gameplay elements, taking the game to a whole new level, and Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem is expected to reach that same level of fandom. Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem is set to release to Steam and the Nintendo Switch™ on December 14th.
● About the Koumajou Remilia series
Koumajou Remilia is a 2D side-scrolling action series, spun off from the globally adored Touhou Project games, and a fan-made remaster of the Koumajou Densetsu project first introduced to us by Frontier Aja in 2009. It’s a stand-alone interpretation and expression of the Touhou Project world and characters, having received a great response from fans of the Touhou Project series.
The first remake, titled Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, was based on the monumental work Embodiment of Scarlet Devil and released to the globe on Steam and Nintendo Switch™ on July 28th, 2022 through a joint effort by CFK and Frontier Aja.
It told the story of protagonist Reimu Hakurei, who headed off to Scarlet Devil Castle in search of the unknown cause of the mysterious events to hit Gensoukyou, and is still beloved by fans for the character designs of Banpai Akira, who gave a dark atmosphere to the game, as well as for the audio that enhances the mood and the overall finish of the game.
Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony improved on the original release by adding HD graphics and a number of additional elements to the game, taking it to the next level. It was also translated from its original Korean into Japanese, English, French, and other languages, while also adding full voiceovers from popular voice actresses that the original lacked.
Following the successful global release of Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony, Frontier Aja and CFK unveiled the sequel Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem. It is based on Touhou Project’s Perfect Cherry Blossom game and is slated to be released to the globe on Steam and Nintendo Switch™ on December 14th of this year.
The protagonist of Koumajou Remilia Ⅱ: Stranger's Requiem is Sakuya Izayoi, one of Remilia’s followers. In changing this hunter/vampire side, this game pays homage to the original story. To fit with current gameplay specs, it is compatible with 1080p Full HD and widescreen monitors, and provides a number of new gameplay features.
