Homini et Armi – The End of Knights: A 2D Turn-Based Strategic Narrative Game Set in the Italian Renaissance

Inspired by recently unearthed 15th century documents researched and transcribed by the developers, AgeofGames

27th August 2024, Bari, Italy: AgeofGames, acclaimed developer behind retro hits Kien (GBA) and Etrom (PC), is proud to announce its latest and greatest project to date, Homini et Armi: The End of Knights, set for release on Steam for PC. The project is currently part of the IGN gamescom Studio!

An Authentic Journey Through the Renaissance:

This immersive turn-based narrative tactical game transports players into the heart of the Early Italian Renaissance, offering an unprecedented exploration of 15th-century history through meticulously crafted gameplay and narrative, rooted in authentic historical texts recently unearthed and transcribed.

Homini et Armi: The End of Knights is not just another historical game; it is a deep dive into the life of a "Condottiero," a mercenary captain, during one of recent history's most fascinating periods. The game is based on authentic 15th-century economic-military texts, including documentation and accounting records written and signed by Micheletto Attendolo, one of the era's now mostly forgotten, yet once renowned and respected Condottieri. These historical sources have been the source of years of study by the developers, allowing them to authentically reveal and recreate the words, thoughts, and emotions of the people who wrote them, 600 years ago.

Key Features:

  • Lead a Mercenary Company: Take command of a "free company" of mercenaries and navigate the complex web of alliances, rivalries, and contracts that defined the geopolitical landscape of Early Renaissance Italy.
  • Historical Tactical Battles: Engage in intense, strategic turn-based battles on hexagonal battlefields, with gameplay inspired by classic tabletop wargames and enriched by the expertise of military historians.
  • Immersive Narrative: Experience a richly detailed storyline, meticulously crafted to reflect the true historical events, figures, and personal stories from the 15th century, bringing to life the voices and experiences of those who shaped the era.
  • Cultural and Linguistic Immersion: The game will be available in both modern and 15th/16th century languages, including Shakespearean English, Late Middle Japanese (中世日本語, Chūsei Nihongo), and Renaissance Italian. This unique feature allows players to experience the game in a way that closely mirrors the historical context of the time [there will be subtitles!]
  • Unique Art Style: The aesthetics of Homini et Armi draw inspiration from the works of the great Renaissance artist Paolo Uccello, particularly his famous painting "The Battle of San Romano."

Language Options at Launch:

Homini et Armi: The End of Knights will be available in the following modern languages at launch, including: English, Italian, French, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin), German, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Ukrainian, Turkish, and Russian.

With Homini et Armi: The End of Knights, AgeofGames continues its mission to blend history, literature, and digital entertainment, creating a game that not only entertains but also reveals history and inspires.

The title aims to set a new class of historical strategy games, offering players a deeply engaging experience that bridges the past and present through innovative gameplay and storytelling. As players make their way through the challenging battles and complex narratives, they will uncover the many forgotten stories of Renaissance Italy, brought to life in stunning detail.
