Known for their mixed 2D and 3D animations, São Paulo animation studio Histeria! brings a fresh and daring style to VCT Americas Playoffs new action packed music video “Pixel Perfect”.
Amongst tons of creative stuff Riot Games is used to publish, director Jan Xavier at Histeria! adds: “Riot releases an insane amount of great animated videos for their global e-sports events. As insane as they are, at this point most of them choose a somewhat similar style. We wanted to stand out in the middle of this, even working with a smaller scope, as one of the many regions.”
In Valorant, a single pixel makes all the difference in the outcome, and Jan Xavier takes this concept to another level developing a thrilling narrative for the last stage of the regional championship. Each of the eight qualified esports teams is featured in the music video, in scenes alternating between real-life players and iconic Valorant agents. As the teams fight for their shot at the VCT Americas trophy, the agents bring dope action moves to the screen, facing off against their rivals.
In the best Histeria! style, 3D backgrounds created entirely on Blender set the stage for the gripping full cel animation of beloved agents, pro players and effects.
“The ethos was to prioritize sick animations over complex visuals throughout the whole production. So the trick was to make visuals that are simple but still impactful. That’s why we went with the simpler but highly expressive character models. Lighting was also simplified, but we developed a striking visual treatment, with strong colors and heavy post processing.”, said the director.
More than 60 artists — between Brazilian and foreigners — are behind the explosion of colors, movement and also music! The original music and musical production is led by Samuel Ferrari, at mdois studio, featuring analuiza and WHYTRI with a beat that represents the multicultural spirit of the championship and the region of Americas!
“This track came to life through an international effort by many hands, cultures, and creative minds across São Paulo, Leiria, Lisbon, New York, Atlanta, and Lazise, and it was written in three languages (Portuguese, Spanish, and English) to represent the multicultural spirit of our region.
Musically, we fused Brazilian Phonk, Pop Funk, Latin Music & Hip Hop, built for tension, precision, and the competitive fire that defines VCT Americas. Our goal was to craft something authentically “Americas” that you would not hear anywhere else and to build hype for the finals.”, said Samuel Ferrari at mdois studio.
