Top tips for surviving in Stranded: Alien Dawn’s deadly new jungle region

Thrilling planet survival sim Stranded: Alien Dawn is receiving a major free update on all platforms this week, bringing a stunning yet dangerous jungle region, Saltu, and a range of new features and challenges for players to overcome. With new plants and alien wildlife, tropical diseases, adverse weather conditions and more, can you rise to the challenge and help your survivors thrive?

Here are our top tips:

Prepare for the weather

Sweltering conditions within Saltu bring extreme humidity during the long wet season, with the dry season giving way to very hot temperatures that can hinder crop growth. During warmer weather, you’ll need to keep survivors on top of preserving food, which will decay faster, while keeping resources cool requires more electricity as devices like refrigerators need to work much harder.

Divide and conquer

Researching camp management will now unlock the ability to construct, place, and name area flags. Assigning survivors to an area flag allows them to live and work only within this area, giving you even more control over the productivity of your survivors as they establish their base.

Healer at the ready

With a range of new diseases, such as swarm fever, gut worms, and blood infections, ensuring you select a survivor that’s an expert healer could not be more important to prevent life-threatening situations. New survivor Melody is incredibly skilled in this area.

Jungle botanist

With a range of vibrant new plant life to discover, ensuring your survivors observe their surroundings is more vital than ever. Species such as the sausage palm provide ample food, while the purpleleaf plant can be harvested for sticks and leaves to construct structures including shelters, sleeping spots, roofs, and fences. Protect plants against invisible Xenoflora Blight to avoid losing crops quickly.

Watch out for wildlife

The Noth, a passive creature that moves in large herds, and the Shogu, a more aggressive animal, are native to Saltu – can your survivors hunt or tame them? Watch out for familiar species the Scissorhands, which will also will gather in huge, hostile nests that are difficult to destroy. Protect your base at all costs!

Equip your survivors

Each survivor’s inventory now includes a dedicated tool slot, ensuring they can be ready for any task or threat. From basic tools like survival kits and harvesting tools, to advanced tools such as respiratory masks and grenades, research is key to unlocking vital equipment.

Put your survival skills to the test in the Saltu region now with Stranded: Alien Dawn, available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation®4 and Xbox One for a suggested retail price of £29.99/$34.99/€34.99.
