The ancient Egyptians imagined paradise as a farm: Aaru, the Field of Reeds, where the souls of the dead tended fields along an idealized Nile. In Fields of Aaru, players start a second life there. They build a home on the river, help restore the village, and venture into the desert beyond.

The update's biggest new feature lets players reshape the land itself. They can dig into the terrain around their farm and carve channels that carry the Nile's water to their fields, turning dry sand green

Players can now befriend the villagers with gifts, and each villager has their own likes and dislikes. Character creation gets a big expansion too, with new hairstyles and sliders for height, build and color.

Updated visuals add fuller foliage, water reflections, richer lighting and softer shadows. The Nile now ripples and splashes as players wade, fish and travel by boat, and players and animals leave footprints in the sand.

The update also adds autosaves, better controller navigation and new accessibility options.

Key Features

  • Harvest the Nile's Bounty: Grow crops in fertile soil, cast a line in the Nile, and irrigate new fields.
  • Befriend the Locals: Get to know the people of Aaru, help them repair their village, and learn ancient crafts like shaping stone and firing clay.
  • Venture Into the Desert: Carry water and look for shade as you search the sands for oases, ruins and tombs holding rare materials and lost knowledge.
  • Appease the Gods: Bring offerings to shrines to earn blessings. Ptah empowers your tools, Hapi enriches your harvests, and Sekhmet protects you in the desert.
  • Discover New Lands: Cross the Nile to regions where the sands turn white and pyramids rise from the horizon, and restore ancient obelisks to travel between them.

Availability

The Fields of Aaru demo is available free on Steam now. It is part of Steam Next Fest, which runs until October 26, and remains available after the festival ends. The full game is in development for PC, with a release date to be announced.
