Rome, Italy – October 2025 – Independent Italian studio ActionGames.c.l.r. has just announced a major gameplay overhaul for Darkness: Prince of Shadows, their ambitious dark-fantasy action game currently in development. Following the positive reception of the playable demo on Steam, the team is ready to introduce substantial changes based on player feedback.


🎮 A turning point after the demo


Since its release, the demo has caught the attention of both gamers and content creators, including popular YouTuber WildGamerSK, who shared gameplay footage of the game:

The studio paid close attention to community suggestions, especially regarding movement and combat mechanics. Rumors about a possible gameplay overhaul have now been confirmed: Darkness: Prince of Shadows is evolving into something much more dynamic and immersive.


🔥 From 2.5D to deeper movement


After weeks of speculation, the development team broke the news with an official post on the game’s Steam page titled:


Important News – Major Gameplay Changes Incoming!


Here’s what they revealed:


3D movement: Characters will no longer be restricted to a single axis. They will now be able to move more freely across the game space.

(Note: the game will retain its 2.5D side-scrolling visual style.)


Revamped combat system: The battle mechanics are being reworked to complement the expanded movement system.


Updated environments: Game maps and level design will be modified to better support the new gameplay structure.


🎯 The goal is to make the experience more fluid, exciting, and engaging — while staying true to the game’s original vision.

We spoke with the team at ActionGames.c.l.r., who gave us some exclusive insight into the development decisions.


“We realized many players wanted a greater sense of exploration and freedom. That’s when we knew we had to rethink how the character moves and interacts with the world,” said Claudio Fabbozzi, co-founder of the studio.


“The current combat system wasn’t reaching its full potential. That’s what inspired us to open up the movement into deeper space, unlocking more dynamic battles,” Fabbozzi continued.


“After presenting the updated prototype to the rest of the team, we agreed unanimously to move forward with this change. Luigi Carace will lead the graphics updates, while Roberto Lisio and I will handle the coding side of things. It’s going to be a long road, but we’re confident that the final result will be worth it,” he concluded.
