Los Angeles, California - June 24th 2025 - Rob Yescombe, the screenwriter behind worldwide number one movies on both Netflix (Outside The Wire, starring Anthony Mackie & Damon Idris) and Amazon Prime Video (Jackpot! starring John Cena, Awkwafina & Simu Li), announced today that he has acquired the rights to his critically-acclaimed VR murder mystery game “The Invisible Hours” and is seeking partners for a remaster and screen adaptation.
Yescombe was the original co-creator, writer and narrative director of the game, developed by now defunct Spanish video game developer, Tequila Works.
First launched at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, The Invisible Hours went on to become a cult classic (with celebrities such as Neil Patrick Harris singing the game’s praises), boasting an impressive 94% Overwhelmingly Positive score on Steam, and sitting just below the iconic Daniel Craig murder mystery “Knives Out” on Metacritic.
Since the game's release, its cast went on to great success - most notably Fiona Rene, now co-starring in CBS' Tracker; the highest rated non-sports TV show in America.
Yescombe said, "I adored making The Invisible Hours. Truly, the best creative experience of my life. Fans still reach out to me, even after all this time - they love it as much as I do. The VR hardware market has grown massively since 2017 - multiple millions of units - making The Invisible Hours a prime candidate to remaster for a new generation."
The Invisible Hours is an intricate murder mystery, where players freely explore a complex web of interwoven stories within a sprawling mansion. It tells the story of a group of strangers who receive a curious invitation from enigmatic inventor, Nikola Tesla, offering each of them the chance to make amends for their darkest wrongdoings. But when the last guest arrives at Tesla’s isolated mansion laboratory, they find him dead – murdered. Disgraced Swedish detective, Gustaf Gustav, vows to find the killer amongst the other guests: a blind butler, a convicted murderer, the world’s most famous actress, Tesla’s former assistant, the son of a wealthy railroad magnate, and rival inventor Thomas Edison. But none of these people are what they seem.
Yescombe is a multiple award-winning writer and narrative director with extensive experience in virtual reality and interactive storytelling. Listed among Screen Daily's 'Stars of Tomorrow' and Variety's '10 Screenwriters to Watch', Rob Yescombe has scored worldwide number one movies on both Netflix (OUTSIDE THE WIRE, starring Anthony Mackie & Damon Idris) and Amazon Prime Video (JACKPOT! starring John Cena, Awkwafina & Simu Liu). Starting his career in video games, Rob Yescombe worked on major franchises including ALIEN, BLADE RUNNER, FAMILY GUY, THE TWILIGHT ZONE and STAR WARS, alongside indie classics like QUBE: DIRECTOR'S CUT, THE PRECINCT, FARPOINT and RIME.
Yescombe is represented by Innovative Artists Entertainment and Curtis Brown in the UK.
