  • Bringing esports to the cloud will reduce production and hardware costs, and access will be as easy as having an internet connection nearby

  • The esports sector had a turnover of more than 1.500 million euros in 2020

Barcelona, march 4th of 2021. – Ludium Lab, the technology provider for interactive streaming services, and Ween, the expert technological platform in organizing esports competitions and tournaments, are joining forces to carry out an R+D agreement focused on the development of strategies and solutions to bring esports to the cloud. With this alliance, both companies have decided to transform the way electronic sports are played through a pioneering technological service aiming to take competition to the next level.

"We are tremendously excited about this strategic alliance with Ween, where we will join our strengths and experience in the development of cloud solutions with theirs in the management and organization of esports competitions, trying to take the category and experience to the next level. We imagine ourselves in the near future, giving the possibility to any user in the world, regardless of the hardware they have, to participate in competitions of their favorite games from anywhere, as well as to provide the organizers the ability to implement it" says Juan José Martín, CEO of Ludium Lab.

An agreement that aims to bring esports within everyone's reach

The work and collaboration agreement between the two companies has the sole objective of investigating possible solutions to carry out the transformation of the current model of esports to a new model based on the cloud, where anyone with a device with internet access as the only requirement can participate in tournaments and competitions in streaming without needing to have specific equipment or a computer with certain professional gaming features.

"The cloud is the future of the ecosystem, the next level of development to generate new experiences for users and brands and, therefore, new business opportunities. Collaborative work, cutting-edge technology and a clear disruptive approach define our identity as a company, so having the good fortune of being able to partner with a technological benchmark in the area of cloud gaming like Ludium Lab is a big step for Ween. We are ready to lay the foundations for the future of esports in the cloud," explains Jon Llaguno, Ween’s Managing Director.

Bringing esports to the cloud will reduce production and hardware costs, making them fully accessible to anyone, anywhere and with any device, hence reaching a wider audience of amateur videogames enthusiasts. With just an Internet connection and a subscription to the platform, anyone will be able to enjoy the services offered, avoiding downloads and updates.

One of the great advantages of this technology is the reduction and adaptability of costs for high user traffic. Ludium Lab's cloud gaming solution allows to efficiently manage these possible peaks of use.

In addition, the service in which both companies are working is a pioneer in the technology sector and responds to one of the most current trends: the increase in the use of smartphones to play videogames, numbers that match the usage data on PCs. When it comes to esports, the electronic devices most commonly used to participate are top gamer computers due to tactical and comfort reasons, but more and more users are joining the mobile esports trend. Specifically for this reason, Ludium Lab and Ween are convinced that cloud gaming is the future of competitions.

In this strategic alliance, both companies, experts in R+D, technology and services, will create a joint working group to successfully carry out this project. Ludium Lab will contribute with its knowledge and resources on streaming technology, platforms of virtualization and videogames in the cloud. As for Ween, it will offer its experience and know-how on esports users and the organization of competitions and tournaments.

Technical details: the advantages of cloud gaming

The great advantage of the service offered by Ludium Lab in B2B channel or on its sorastream.com platform, is the ability to play at FHD, 60fps, a latency of 50/60 ms, and all of it with a connectivity currently found in most homes between 5 and 10 Mbps.

With a PC, a mobile or tablet and a stable connection you can enjoy the service at the highest level without needing to download anything on your device or suffer the long waits for videogames updates.

Esports: the sector that is growing at a breathtaking pace

The esports industry has long stopped being a trend and has consolidated itself as one of the fastest growing sports in terms of both revenue generated and number of followers in the various competitions, and technological innovation has played a crucial role for this growth. Last year the videogame and esports industry had a turnover of more than 1.500 million euros and it is estimated to grow more than 15% every year*.

These multiplayer videogame competitions have given rise to some of the largest events in the world, reaching the same number of spectators as the NBA. In 2019, a global audience of 443 million was registered, including enthusiasts and casual viewers, and by 2023 this number is expected to exceed 645 million of people.
