BBG Entertainment has an impressive programme lined up for gamescom 2025: to celebrate the launch of BOULDER DASH 40th Anniversary, the grand finale of the international BOULDER DASH Championship will take place on Saturday. During the week, the best gamescom visitors can qualify for the final in daily contests. In addition, BBG Entertainment will unveil the reboots of two 8-bit classics for the first time.
Munich, 5 August 2025 – BBG Entertainment will once again be represented at gamescom 2025 in Cologne this year – and with a very special highlight: In Hall 10.2, retro area, the cult game BOULDER DASH will celebrate its 40th birthday – with a spectacular new edition and many other surprises for retro and gaming fans.
BOULDER DASH – 40th Anniversary Edition: Premiere at gamescom
The final version of ‘BOULDER DASH – 40th Anniversary Edition’ will be presented for the very first time at gamescom! The timeless classic returns – with brand new levels, a modern look and fresh gameplay challenges that will delight retro lovers and new players alike. The release date is 21 August 2025 for Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Mac.
BOULDER DASH Championship – The grand finale at gamescom
On Saturday, 23 August 2025, starting at 1 p.m., the exciting finale of the international Boulder Dash Championship will take place with the winners of the Master Challenge tournaments in Warsaw, Rome and Berlin. A special highlight: Chris Hülsbeck, legendary video game composer and responsible for the soundtrack of the new BOULDER DASH version, will be there live to accompany the final and personally award the winners.
BOULDER DASH CONTEST – Qualify for the final now!
From Wednesday, 20 August to Friday, 22 August 2025, all visitors will have the opportunity to qualify for the grand final on Saturday directly at the trade fair in the BOULDER DASH CONTEST. Together with EIGHT BIT E-SPORTS, BBG Entertainment is organising three competition slots every day (10:00, 13:00 and 16:00). The best players each day will receive certificates and exclusive prizes – and maybe even the chance to win the grand prize on Saturday. A special highlight for all retro fans and high score hunters: The game will be played on original cult systems such as the Commodore C64 and the Amiga – as well as on modern PCs and consoles. Whether you're a retro enthusiast or a next-gen gamer, show off your skills on the platform of your choice and experience Boulder Dash with the authentic look and feel of the 80s through to today's gaming era.
More than just Boulder Dash: retro reboots celebrate their premiere
In addition to Boulder Dash, BBG Entertainment will also be presenting the reboots of two legendary 8-bit classics for the first time at its stand. These new editions remain true to the spirit of the originals, but bring modern game mechanics and contemporary presentation to the game – for retro fans and new generations alike.
BOULDER DASH 40th Anniversary will be released on 21 August for PC, Switch, Xbox and PlayStation (RRP: £19.99).
