Coda Shakes Up The Hyper-Casual Gaming Industry

Today, Coda Platform announced its new approach to its products and services. The new services revolve around a singular mission - to help studios make a killing, making games - and start with its Interactive Game Brief, which will be the hub that hyper-casual game developers can use to keep track of their progress and access the rest of Coda’s tools and infrastructure.

Coda believes that there are too many obstacles in the way of great game hyper-casual studios. Developers must invest thousands of dollars to test ideas, research the market, build a team, pay for advertising space and reach their audience. And when they do succeed, they see much less of the profit than they deserve.

That’s got to stop. Most of the industry is using outdated methods and there aren’t the tools to help specifically with hyper-casual games. Coda wants to see studios making a livelihood out of what they love. And make a killing, making games. To do this, Coda will give studios back control of their games, helping them come up with ideas and move through the game’s lifecycle. And, while studios are finding the right idea, Coda will train them on the skills they’ll need to market their game.

Coda’s Interactive Game Brief will tie together its platform

The core of Coda’s new approach is its Interactive Game Brief (IGB). It combines project management, collaboration and organisation. Studios can use it to store their research, insights and inspiration – along with any relevant testing. It will be the game studio’s hub to catalogue and collaborate about their games.

Through IGB, developers can then get access to the rest of Coda’s tools:

Concept Store. This allows developers to find and choose pre-vetted and tested concepts, increasing their chances of success tenfold. Saving them months of time brainstorming and vetting their own ideas.

Market Intelligence. This data insight tool allows developers to keep an eye on trends, help them research the market and monitor popular mechanics. Specifically for hyper-casual games.

Creative Insights. A consolidated library of all creatives from the top charts, so that developers can learn how best to create their advertising.

Marketability Test. Developers can run tests to check whether their game idea will be successful, before moving into development.

SDKs. A series of modules that developers can plug into their games, such as access to Adjust and Unity. As well as meta-mechanics, like in-game currencies or shopfronts.

GrowthCloud. This user-acquisition tool does the job for a ten-person team. It automatically allocates budgets, bids for and sells advertising space and optimizes the studio’s monetization.

(It’s worth noting that developers can use these tools without using the IGB. And that the majority are free to use, with some stipulations.)

What this means for the industry

Studios and developers should, and will, have more options when launching their games. Depending on what they need, they’ll have more freedom to choose how to publish their game, whether that be through training with a publishing team, going with a traditional contact, or using the tools themselves to launch independently.

They’ll be able to pump more resources, time, and money into building and advertising their game.

Less barriers means even more games launched by smaller, independent teams. More opportunities and resources to smaller developers. More independent studios. More competition.

It’s all powered by GrowthCloud

Behind the scenes, Coda has developed a machine learning algorithm that feeds of its vast data-lake – filled with anonymised information about the gaming industry from multiple sources. This technology can predict trends, automate decisions and create reports for developers.
