UBISOFT EXPANDS EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP WITH DIGITAL SCHOOLHOUSE IN THE UK

FULL SUITE OF DISCOVERY TOUR EXPERIENCES PROVIDED FREE TO ALL 52 DIGITAL SCHOOLHOUSES AS A TEACHING RESOURCE ALIGNED TO THE UK NATIONAL CURRICULUM

LONDON, UK, 18th October, 2021 — Today, Ubisoft announced that it would be building upon its commitment to support education initiatives, through the expansion of its partnership with Digital Schoolhouse in the UK.

Backed by the games industry trade body UKIE, Digital Schoolhouse is a not-for-profit programme which enables primary schools to experience free creative computing workshops from their local Schoolhouse. Combined with ingenious computing, the programme also engages thousands of students with its pioneering and immersive careers education.

Via the provision of over 5000 PC codes to 52 schools, the full suite of Discovery Tour releases covering Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and most recently the Viking Age, will be integrated into lesson plans to inspire, engage, and educate pupils on historical culture.  As part of the rollout, Digital Schoolhouse will aim to work with teachers from across disciplines such as History, Computing, English and Art to explore how cross-curricular teaching can be enhanced by the use of the Discovery Tour tools.

Discovery Tour is a dedicated franchise that lets visitors freely roam these historical time periods to learn more about their history and daily life. Students, teachers, non-gamers, and dedicated players can discover these eras at their own pace or embark on guided tours curated by historians and experts.

With the release of a brand-new chapter of the Assassin’s Creed educational expansion on 19th October, Discovery Tour: Viking Age will shed light on the Viking era and allow players to discover more about the history and traditions of the time.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with the goal of putting narrative and storytelling at the heart of the experience, players will be able to step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters from the time while living out their stories and adventures and interacting with the world around them.   Designed in close collaboration with historians and archaeologists, this non-violent, interactive learning experience is an engaging deep dive into the Viking Age in ninth-century Norway and England.

Commenting on this partnership, Shahneila Saeed (Head of Education and Programme Director for Digital Schoolhouse) said – “Ubisoft has been a longstanding supporter of the Digital Schoolhouse programme and this further commitment to provide access to free and immersive education tools, couldn’t be more exciting”.
Mark Slaughter, Ubisoft UK Marketing Director added – “Discovery Tour is a great example of how videogames can be used as viable and impactful education tools, which engage students through a medium they can best relate to, in today’s digital age”.

Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be free for all owners of Assassin’s Creed® Valhalla and will be available on the same platforms as the main game. The PC standalone version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be available via Ubisoft Connect and on the Epic Games Store for £16.99. For the very first time in the Discovery Tour franchise, Discovery Tour: Viking Age will also release as a standalone on Stadia, Luna, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S | X in early 2022.
