All we want for Christmas is Box Art

You know that Steam library you’ve spent years building? The one you keep saying you’ll get around to playing eventually? It’s going to look stunning on a shelf.

BOXROOM’s latest update is here, bringing its most requested Early Access feature: a built-in game artwork scraper! Alongside seasonal decorations, menu improvements and a few more ways to get your collection looking juuust right.

All ahead of BOXROOM leaving Early Access on November 10th!

For the uninitiated, BOXROOM is a Steam library management and sandbox interior design game where you can build, furnish and customise a space to show off your game collection. Somewhere to put all those games you bought in the sale.

Artwork loading has been the community’s number one request since launch, and the team has been working behind the scenes to find a solution they could bring directly into the game.

Through a new partnership with IGDB, and with the help and approval of Twitch, players can now download game artwork with minimal effort and without leaving their room. Their BOXROOM room, that is. Though leaving their actual room remains entirely optional.

Three steps and it's done:

  • Pause the game
  • Open the Media tab
  • Hit “Start Scraping”

And let BOXROOM get to work finding artwork for your collection. Prefer customising your own game cases? Don’t worry! That option hasn’t gone anywhere.

There’s more! This is the HOLIDAY UPDATE afterall, we’ve been busy:
  • Seasonal decorating! Halloween, Christmas and Easter decorations are now available.

  • A menu makeover! Overhauled in game menus and improved gamepad navigation, plus adjustable keybindings.

  • Alphabetical order! A new shelf sorting tool for those who like everything in its proper place. We see you.

  • Quite the handful! Carry up to 10 games at once.

  • Find your games! More obvious game search and a shortcut to open it.

  • A little peace and quiet! Improved radio controls and a fix for overlapping video audio.

There’s also a new object facing indicator, a quicker exit from game inspection, groundwork for future localisation, and Bells to earn through Pantaloon’s Playbill.

Wait, bells? Oh yeah, you can now earn Bells through Pantaloon’s Playbill*! Don’t know what Playbill is? Clearly yesterday’s email got buried. We forgive you. Here’s the press release!

Next stop: 1.0!

This is BOXROOM’s final update before it leaves Early Access on November 10th. The covers are coming in, the shelves are being straightened, and we’re getting everything ready for launch!

Thanks for helping us make BOXROOM what it is today. We can’t wait to show you what’s next. See you at 1.0!

*Playbill is Pantaloon’s home for the bold and bizarre, with unusual indie games hiding in its corners, free monthly puzzles and a peek behind the curtain. There’s plenty to explore for free, plus a growing collection of games to claim and keep through the paid Primo subscription. Go on, have a nose around.
