Independent studio Thousands of Daggers is pleased to announce the official release of the playable demo for The Mnemograph, now available for free on Steam. Fans of indie and strategy games can explore the world of this unique steampunk title, combining deck-building mechanics, card-based combat, and printing press management in a narrative world driven by crime and the press.

Demo Content

This demo provides a first look at The Mnemograph's core gameplay loop, including:

 

  • Deck-building & Card Combat: Build your first crime- and corruption-themed decks and battle other newspaper moguls in the fight for influence over a crumbling city.

  • Printing Press Management: Oversee your press, manage machines, monitor paper, ink, coal, and copper supplies, perform repairs, and gradually increase your production output.

  • Strategic Map: Expand your commercial reach across the city by acquiring more and more newsstands, and compete with rival publishers for the best locations.

  • Steampunk Noir Atmosphere: Discover a narrative steeped in steampunk noir, set in a city consumed by corruption.

 

Players can expect around an hour and a half of gameplay, including the introduction of the game’s story arc and an in-game help system covering both card battles and management mechanics. Feedback gathered from this demo will directly influence upcoming updates.

About The Mnemograph
The Mnemograph is a single-player strategy game blending deck-building, card combat, and press management in a corrupted steampunk world where journalism is just beginning to take shape. You play as the founder of The Mnemograph Chronicle, a newspaper like no other—written not by journalists, but by a machine that extracts the memories of the dead: the Mnemograph.

 

Your goal is to build a powerful printing empire that can outpace and outmaneuver the competition. Manage key resources (paper, ink, coal, copper), upgrade your machines, and create powerful decks to defend, negotiate, or corrupt your way to the top.

 

But in this crime-ridden city, nothing comes without getting your hands dirty. Collaborate with the underworld, strike deals with the mob, and use your cards—and your influence—to survive.

 

Early Access is planned for Q3 2025, with support for both English and French localizations.

  • Tactical Deck-Building Rooted in the Criminal Underworld: Build your deck by purchasing services from influential and often shady characters. Each card represents a specific action or unit, and you choose your allies to create a custom strategy.

  • A Dark, Original Steampunk World: Dive into a city overrun by crime, propaganda, and power struggles. Discover a story centered around the Mnemograph, a sinister printing machine that turns the memories of the dead into headlines, and build a media empire in a world where truth is for sale.
