LOUISVILLE, Colo. – The Kickstarter for Terra Invicta, the grand strategy alien invasion game by indie studio Pavonis Interactive, raised more than $216,000 from 4,278 backers at its conclusion on Thursday.
The campaign reached its goal of $20,000 within six hours of its Sept. 29 launch. It funded all six stretch goals, hitting the final one – an alien invasion scenario set in the far future – in its final minutes.
In response to the Kickstarter’s success, Terra Invicta’s Dallas-based startup publisher, Hooded Horse, also announced it would increase funding for Terra Invicta.
"Terra Invicta has enormous potential," said Tim Bender, CEO of Hooded Horse. "Where past sci-fi strategy games have explored the distant future, Terra Invicta brings the player into our world, and challenges them to take those first steps into space. The Kickstarter has proven that is a game players have been waiting for."
Terra Invicta is the first independently developed title developed by Pavonis, which was founded by the team behind the acclaimed Long War mods for the XCOM series.
The game is planned for release for PC in summer 2021. With its primary scenario set in the modern day, it simulates the geopolitics of an alien invasion of Earth and features space exploration and space warfare throughout the Solar System as humanity tries to mount a defense. Players will manage one of several human factions that must contend with alien infiltrators and other human groups as they vie for control of the Earth.
Pavonis was founded as Long War Studios in 2015 by the hobbyists who led the team that developed the Long War mod for 2012’s XCOM Enemy Unknown. The company was hired by 2K Games in 2015 to develop release-day mods for XCOM 2, and then an overhaul mod, Long War 2. Its work has been praised in multiple industry outlets, including IGN, PC Gamer, Wired, Kotaku and Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
Terra Invicta entered full production in 2017 and is now available for wishlisting on Steam.
