Stream Hatchet's Q2 Streaming & Esports Report

The report includes details on e-sport events, competitive teams, content creators, and streaming platforms. ​​​​​​​

StreamHatchet, a data and analytics provider covering streaming platforms, has released a Streaming and Esports Report for Q2 2022. The report provides insight into the key trends and statistics emerging in esports and streaming across Q2 (Apr–June 2022).

 

Some key findings from the report include: 

 
  • The growth rate of video game live streams achieved due to lockdowns from the COVID-19 pandemic has begun to stabilise. Creator fatigue may be contributing to the decline, with popular streamers like Pokimane taking hiatuses from streaming. Live streaming viewership has decreased 15% since Q2 2021, the number of unique channels fell by 20%, and the overall hours broadcast fell by 16%.
     

  • 99% of the most popular 100 streamers in Q2 are men. The exception is Amouranth at #56, the most popular female streamer with 8.2m hours watched in Q2. Interestingly, three of the top 10 female content creators are VTubers (Sakura Miko, Usada Pekora, and Ironmouse).
     

  • The Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial took Twitch by storm. Fans amassed over 26.7M hours watching the trial unfold, 310 unique channels live-streamed the trial on their channel,  and users sent over 231K chat messages related to the event. The trial boosted Twitch’s ‘Just Chatting’ by over 7.3% for April and May.
     

  • GTA V was the most popular game on streaming platforms by hours watched (465m), closely followed by League of Legends (464m) and Valorant (354m).
     

  • The Quarry has been the most popular game launch this quarter. It hit a peak of 1.8k channels streaming it on launch day and has clocked up over 14.3m hours in viewing time across streaming platforms.
     

  • Mobile Legends: Bang Bang secured the top spot in mobile games, with over 182m hours of gameplay watched.
     

  • Luminosity (85m), TSM FTX (56.8m), T1 (49.4m), and Faze Clan (45.7m) are the most popular e-sport teams according to hours watched across their esport matches and individual creators in Q2. Interestingly, G2 esports clocked the most hours watched for team matches, while Team FTX dominated because of the views across their team members’ individual channels.

  • xQc (70.6m), Gaules (57.7m), and Asmongold (40.1m) are the most popular content creators in Q2, according to hours watched across Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook Gaming.
