Thursday, February 11, 2021 — RICCIONE, ITALY - Newcomer indie studio dOOb games srl announced that Medievalien, their action roguelike featuring fantasy and sci-fi combat, releases on Early Access today.
Medievalien is a genre-bending roguelike that combines fantasy and sci-fi to give players a wide arsenal of weapons and abilities. When aliens invade a magical world, a band of heroes must use every weapon available--from spellbooks to ray guns--to protect their kingdom.
With a grand vision for how these story elements can translate to gameplay choices and for how ongoing community feedback can bring polish to the game, the dOOb games team sees Early Access as a unique game development path with untapped potential for developers and for players.
“The success of Hades showed the world that there are better ways to do Early Access than the industry has seen previously,” Alex Bagnolini, co-founder, says. “We believe there is still more potential for player engagement and feedback, even if you aren’t a longtime developer with momentum from previous releases.”
As part of realizing this Early Access potential, the dOOb games team assembled a “Roguelike Advisory Council” comprised of active roguelike streamers to keep the feedback and input flowing on a weekly basis and to deeply entrench Twitch viewers in the process as well.
“Roguelikes are at their best when the synergies between items and abilities are carefully balanced and refined,” Bagnolini continues. “Mixing medieval fantasy with sci-fi alien technology opens the door to thousands of builds that are unlike any other roguelike out there, but we have to get it right and polish every detail. Early Access will help us do that.”
