Royal Leamington Spa, UK, 14th May 2025: It's a Red Letter Day for puzzle fans, as today marks the tenth anniversary of the global launch of PICTURE CROSS™, the enduringly popular logic puzzle app from puzzling.com.
PICTURE CROSS™ started life in 2015 as "World's Biggest Picture Cross". The team at puzzling.com were fans of nonogram games (also known as Picross, Hanjie and Griddlers puzzles) in both pen and paper and digital forms, and were inspired to try to create the definitive version for mobile phones and tablets.
A truly world class nonogram game, they decided, needed to do three things:
■ Include a continuously growing library of handcrafted puzzles.
■ Provide effortless touch controls.
■ Offer a 'relaxing challenge' - testing the player's skill in a calming environment free from time limits or penalties for mistakes.
The results speak for themselves: Over the last decade PICTURE CROSS™ has been downloaded millions of times and, through dozens of free content updates, has blossomed from an initial collection of just 400 puzzles to over 10,000 puzzles!
